Denied

my theory of Waterloo trying to hold on to students as long as i can has finally been applied to me.

i get home from a long day of work today to this email:
Benson Chiu 00XXXXXX

Please note that you are not recommended to graduate with a four year general liberal studies degree as you are currently one course short for a minimum required of 40 courses. You have been recommended to graduate with a Three Year General Liberal Studies degree for the June 2006 convocation. Would you like to accept this degree? Or would you like to cancel your Intent and take another course?

WTF. so i write this in response:
Hi (person),

Thank you for notifying me of this. I thought I was eligible because my academic advisor had told me that I only needed 7 more courses to graduate at the start of the Fall 2005 term. I took 4 courses in the Fall 2005 term, and 3 in the Winter 2006 term. Had I known I would be one short, I would have of course taken 4 courses in the Winter term.

After discussing this matter with my family, I have decided that I would like to cancel my Intent to Graduate and complete my one course I need to obtain my 4-year General Liberal Studies Degree and will take a course through Distance Education in the Fall 2006 term.

However, I was wondering if you would be able to provide me of what level course or requirement course I would need to take, so that I know what kind of class I should enroll in.

Thank you,

Benson Chiu
man, i'm super-pissed. for several reasons. one, for this to happen. this was like probably the worst thing that could happen, & it happened. two, like i said in my response, my advisor had told me how many courses i needed in order to graduate, & i trusted my advisor for giving me accurate information. but now i'm being held back another year over one measely course. three, maybe a little upset at myself for not being more careful & counted the courses myself & made sure i took enough courses.

i guess my thoughts came back to bite me in the ass. when everyone asked me if i graduated, i said, "yes, unofficially, i don't know if i took enough courses & i'll find out on May 23." wow..now i'm officially NOT graduating 'cuz i really DIDN'T take enough courses. so dumb.

so annoyed..annoyed beyond belief. definately a set back. but y'know what? i'm gonna look at it this way (even though i shouldn't, but i will anyway 'cuz it's a content thought despite the bad news). since i have to take a course in the fall, i'm gonna do that through DE (as i have mentioned already), & since i'm going to be enrolled in a course, that means i don't have to pay CR fees. that means, i can play ICE HOCKEY in the fall term, if it's feasible & doable (pending game schedule). so yeah, that's the upside to it. downside, more money to stupid Waterloo & schooling.

but anyway...

WATERLOO LET ME GRADUATE DAMMIT! I'VE BEEN WITH YOU FOR TOO LONG! I WANT TO BREAK UP! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Oh man. That kinda sucks, with just one course. But oh well, I say there's no rush to stuff like this, so just take your time and hope that you can take an interesting course!
