W2006 Da Been Lo - Game 1: 5-2 W
so today after church, i was able to have my brother drive me back up to Waterloo. well actually i drove up & he drove home. i really didn't see the fuss about him driving me back up, it's not that hard to drive from Waterloo back to Mississauga. just follow the signs!
anyway, so yeah, i drove back to Waterloo. the only thing i was really worried about when driving back was me battling sleepiness on the way up. it seems to always happen when i drive back to Waterloo. but this time, i really had reason to worry 'cuz i didn't get very much sleep last night. i tried to sleep at 2.30am, but i don't think i actually went to bed until about 4.30-5am-ish. i just couldn't fall asleep. then for some stupid reason, i started to think about The Matrix & i couldn't figure out what the 2nd movie was called. i knew that the last one was called Revolutions, but what the heck was the name of the 2nd one? so that bugged the crap out of me until i got out of bed & searched it on the Internet (not that i was sleeping anyway right?). Reloaded. RELOADED. argh. stupid. i guess after that i was able to finally pass out for a couple hours.
the drive up was pretty good anyway. listened to Red Hot Chili Peppers & talked with my brother about various things.
so, anyway the reason why i came back up so early was so i could make the 2pm hockey game. made it back at 1pm, so yeah! the 1st game was so good. it was actually a lot of fun, & a lot more challenging than beginner league. intermediate suits us just well. this year, we had a bunch of new players that i've never seen before, maybe more than half of them aren't CCF players, & yes, our team name is Da Been Lo, which translates from Cantonese to "hot pot."
so yeah, our team got off to a quick start. right off the opening faceoff, i broke in on a breakway 'cuz of a bad pass by the defensemen. i just shot it too high, trying to pick the top left corner. on another shift, we had a pretty bizarre goal. our defenceman, Marty just lofted the puck towards the net that went over everyone & it just found the net. the goalie didn't even see the shot since there was a lot of traffic infront. even i thought the shot was gonna go over the net, but then i saw the puck in the net, so we celebrated hahaha..it was really weird.
i didn't see Jon Lo's goal, i think i was either blocked from seeing it, or i was just looking down trying to catch my breath.
our third goal was somewhat a fluke as well as Shaun went in for a breakaway. he just threw the puck on net while he was losing his balance, & it somehow found the top right corner. i think the goalie may have misinterpreted her own positioning 'cuz she just waved her glove at the puck as if she was gonna let the shot go by.
the fourth goal we scored was on a 3-on-1 break. as we broke out of our zone, someone tried to pass it up to me, but it bounced off the back of my skate, but Mike was right behind me & fed me the puck. then i saw that Chris had pretty good speed going into the offensive zone & i knew i wouldn't be able to catch up & i didn't want to slow him down, so i passed the puck to him & in we went. Chris elected to shoot, & a good decision he made as he scored the goal! yah! 1 assist! :P
the last goal wasn't a pretty one, but i'll take it! the shot came from the left side & the goalie didn't control the rebound. i was parked right infront of the net with an opposing defenceman, but he/she wasn't doing a good job in keeping me away from the goalie & i just shuffled the puck through her five-hole.
so yeah, overall, the game was pretty well played. i'm sure that there are some aspects of the game that we can improve on, plus we were missing some players (however, i don't know how good they are either). i thought that today's effort was very good. Clara, you gotta stay with us!! :D
after hockey, Mike & i went over to the PAC for an intramural basketball game. but Mike didn't play 'cuz Alex said they didn't need any more players. but yeah, i still played & like usual, i played like CRAP (not like poo Mike, but BAD!). i think i shot 0-5, & got stuffed on one of them. chinese guys are not meant to play basketball unless you're as tall as Yao Ming. hey whatever happened to Wang Zhi Zhi? lol..wasn't Menke Bateer also on the Raptors? what happened to him? anyway, our team, Stupid Alex Lam, lost the game. we committed too many fouls, & the white boys kept out-rebounding us. i feel like the Raptors when we play (but of course when they're losing) in terms of being out-rebounded.
so yeah, today was a good way to cap off an otherwise FUN weekend which was spent back home.
came home on friday with the ride provided by Carson. thanks Carson. we also swung by Cambridge to pick up Rebecca. we got to Square One at around 3.30pm. got home & watched Friday Night Smackdown! Kurt Angle is the new World Heavyweight Champion! hahaha..not that anyone cares.
after dinner, i headed for North York to pick up Brenda at around 7pm & reached Dave&Busters at around 8pm. we played for 4hrs, but you know how that saying goes, "time flies when you're having fun!" it WAS a lot of fun, & what was even better was the fact that we didn't pay a single penny! why do you ask? 'cuz Brenda had a whole stack of $5 Complimentary Power Cards (like the ones you have to pay as cover after 9 or 10pm), so we used those throughout the night. SWEEEEEEET! thanks for providing the cards Bren, you truely are a money-saver! hehehe.. :P
so we played a whole bunch of different games, both arcade-style & ticket-style. i think the game we played the most was skeeball 'cuz it was the game we used to finish off the cards. it was the cheapest game we could find anyway. we played those coin games of course where one coin over the ledge equals to like 8 tickets or something. Brenda was really good at this game. once she just sat down & a coin fell over. :S hahaha so she won a lot of tickets, in which she gave to me. :P i think by the end of the night, we emassed like over 1500 tickets. so now my ticket total is like over 6000.
after we were finished with Dave&Busters, we drove around looking for a Caffe Demetre. i thought that ALL AMC complexes have a Caffe Demetre. not this one at Dave&Busters. so we ended up going to a Caffe Demetre at the border of Richmond Hill & Markham. it was ran by, you can probably guess, chinese ppl. HAHAH.. :P it was pretty loud in there, but yeah, we still had a pretty good chat, so it's all good! :)
it was a fun night, thanks for coming out Brenda!
anyway, it was truely a bizarre day on Friday on the road. i guess it's suitable since it was Friday the 13th! oOOOoOoo! :P i was a witness to a slew of accidents! the first one was a rear-ending at the interesection of Winston Churchill & Dundas in Mississauga. it was totally the guy from behind's fault as i saw the whole thing unfold. stupid guy. i think the guy was in a rush or a little eager to turn right. the lady infront didn't really budge & he just rammed her. at least both parties were civil about it & there wasn't a big argument/scene.
the second accident i saw was an aftermath of an accident on the 401 on the way to North York. i actually wasn't able to avoid the shattered
glass that still littered the lane, but luckily they weren't sharp enough to puncture my tires or anyone else's for that matter.
the third one was when Brenda & i were leaving Caffe Demetre. i didn't really see the accident happen, but it was fresh, i think the dude infront was gonna make his left turn, but decided last minute to stop, & the dude behind him didn't stop in time & rammed him.
after seeing all these accidents, i started to get a little paranoid, i was like a sign telling me to be careful while driving or i'll get into an accident. :S definately not cool! so i kinda drove carefully home. HAHAHA..kinda. ;P
Saturday was a pretty interesting day too. before heading off to Shoeless Joe for dinner for the 95 Columbia house reunion, Ben & i went to Port Credit Library to cast our advanced election votes. i was gonna vote Liberal, but Vanessa changed my mind & bringing up some interesting issues, as well, i thought, time for a change, the Liberals are full of crap (but then they're ALL full of crap anyway), but i really think that the Liberals just played themselves out of this one. i don't think Paul Martin was a good successor to Jean Chretien, Martin pretty much screwed up everything that was good with the Liberals. i thought that the Liberals were corrupted too. politics. oh how i hate politics. i voted Conservatives.
so yeah, Jeff & Lawrence were already there when we arrived. we watched the end of the Seattle Seahawks/Washington Redskins game (Seahawks won) & the Leaf game. we watched the Leafs build up a good 3-goal lead, only to later watch them blow the freaking game. stupid Leafs. they suck. so we ordered our foods, two steaks & two big league ribs (no i didn't eat all this, i had an 8oz Angus steak). by the time our food came, Rebecca arrived. haha..i guess we were REALLY hungry so we ordered without her. so before Rebecca came, we decided to "bet" on what she would order to see who would be correct! hahaha, but we were all wrong as she ordered the most unlikely thing - chicken wings & ribs. haha..we were stumped.
so the main event of the night was the New England Patriots versus the Denver Broncos. naturally, Lawrence was cheering for the Patriots. i have no idea who Jeff & Ben were going for, Rebecca had no idea what was going on, so we were kinda trying to teach her the rules while we were watching. i cheered for the Broncos for Lawrence's sake 'cuz in the playoffs, there has been some sort of weird streak where everytime i cheered against the Pats, they'd win the game. but not Saturday night. the Pats played like CRAP! they actually deserved to lose, & the Broncos didn't deserve to win, although, they took advantage of the turnovers.
but yeah, the night was really fun. it was nice to see everyone together again. as always, Lawrence provided the jokes, i still maintain that he's the funniest guy i know. he'll always make my laugh no matter what. what makes it remarkable is that he's able to keep building up the joke & everyone laughs. we're gonna miss him when he goes over to Hong Kong for his job.
we later went over to Ben's place to finish off the game & watched a bit of the Ottawa Senators/Edmonton Oilers game. we also watched a bit of Saturday Night Live. Scarlett Johansson was the guest host (may have been a rerun?). we saw the TV FunHouse segment hahaha, Celli-Bots hahahaha.."Danger Third Base!" HAHAHAH it was so funny. it was a you-had-to-be-there moment.
so yeah, that was my weekend in a really long nutshell! :P
school's tomorrow morning, so no more fun for the next 3 days. haha. then it's the weekend again. :P WOOT! i love my schedule!
