Goodbye CT HO Yonge/Eglinton. Hello CT O2!

This past week was my last week at CT Home Office that's located at Yonge & Eglinton in Toronto. On Tuesday, we start at our new "state of the art" facility in Oakville, which is dubbed Oakville2 or O2. We had known about this move almost a year ago now, but it's still kind of surreal. I guess it's one of those things where you don't really know how it will feel until it happens.

It's been an interesting week. I think we just started off the week like it was it was any other week. It was normal, but then came the farewell lunches and goodbyes (which some have gotten emotional). Taking advantage of those food loyalty cards that needed to be redeemed (I had two to redeem - Boston Pizza and Manchu Wok).

The farewell lunches were good time of catching up with some friends that I've made over the years at CT HO. With two different groups, I went to Spring Rolls and Lola Japanese Restaurant. It was good times.

It's hard to believe that I started at CT in 2006, but time does fly. I remember starting on the 11th floor of 2180 and staying there for just one month before our department was moved to the 5th floor of 2190. It was a much nicer floor than 11th, so it was a welcomed change. But sometimes change isn't for everyone.

When we first found out the news that we were moving from the Toronto office to O2 our team was shocked, as was every other team that was affected. For me, my initial reaction was bittersweet. For others, it was disappointment and anger. For others, it was a happiness. I know my brother was very happy.

Why was it bittersweet for me? It was bittersweet because I knew that with this news, my team wouldn't be the same. I knew that a lot of them were not going to be able to make the move since most ppl on my team was from the east end. This would've been a huge commute for them. Longer than my commute to the office (1.5hrs one way - drive to Kipling, subway from Kipling to Yonge/Eglinton).

In the end, my team underwent major overhauls, including myself. Some remained with the team; others found jobs internally; others decided that they will leave CT when we move. So, there were a ton of changes for each team, and it sure was stressful for everyone. I moved teams because, for me it was time, and luckily for me, I moved to a team that was also moving to Oakville, so in the end it all worked out. Praise the Lord for that. If the team wasn't moving to Oakville, I think I would've moved to another role within my team at the time.

However, I'm now kind of excited for the move. The pros outweigh the cons at the moment. The pros include: driving against the Toronto traffic, the shorter commute, the free parking, no TTC problems, brand new building, laptops instead of desktops, dual monitors, new phone, new monitors/keyboard/mouse, new chair that's hopefully more comfortable. The cons, the office camaraderie, missing friends, the longer turnover in terms of paperwork...I'm sure there are more cons, but it's gotta be good that I can't think of too many right?

Tuesday is going to be interesting. Perhaps I'll write about it.

Until next time, Adios! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Family Day long weekend.

Hey, that's great! I've not touched base, but I'm glad you're heading to oakville! I remember talking last year or further that the commute was really tough. This should be much better. :)
