Door Etiquette

I have this pet peeve about people and doors. It riles me up quite a bit.

What is the natural thing you do when you open a door?

Do you open it just enough for yourself to get through?

Do you open it wide regardless if there's anyone behind you?

Do you look behind you to see if there's anyone there and open the door accordingly?

The latter is what I do. I always check behind me to see if there's anyone there and open my door accordingly. I usually hold it open until the next person can either walk through or open it enough that it stays open. Essentially, the door is open for the next person.

If you open the door just enough for yourself to get through when there's someone behind you..you are my pet peeve. I encounter this a lot. It's annoying. Not to mention rude. Especially when you KNOW there's someone behind you.

This happened to me today. Walking behind some dude, and he opens the door just enough for himself to get through. I was like..WOW! I ended up opening the other door because he also went through the door against traffic. My hands were full too. Jerk.

I don't know, if you're in a high traffic area, I think chances are, there's someone behind you. Could have the decency to take a peek and it's courtesy to keep the door open for the next person.

But this is just my opinion. Others may not have a problem with this.

Another short door pet peeve is a tale of the TTC doors.

Freaking doors are always malfunctioning.

"Sorry, do to a door malfunctioning on this train, it is deemed not safe for this train to operate, therefore, this train is out of service. I repeat, this train is now out of service. All passengers must not exit the train as this train is now out of service. Do not board this train, this train is out of service."

Frig. Stupid TTC and their non-working trains. Their uncleanliness. When are those new trains coming? When are the workers going to clean the stations? Where does the fare hike profits go?

Anyway.. Tomorrow's Friday. Yes!

Oooh... Yeah. Especially when they do the slip-through-the-door-before-it-closes-in-your-face thing. Like it's too much work to even psuh/pull the door for themselves.
