Sports Fanatic

Alright,

So, I haven't had a real update since April, where I was venting about my ball hockey team not passing the ball. Since then, it has improved..but not by a lot. It still seems to be an individualistic team.

Anyway, I played my last game with that team two weeks ago. At least for now. I missed the final game of the session last week because of Sylvia's surprise birthday dinner. I definately preferred that group's company over the hockey team. At least I wasn't frustrated like I usually am every Thursday.

I must say though, the last session was more successful than the previous. We finished a respectable 4th out of..8..I think.

But yes, like I said, I've decided to stop playing ball hockey for that particular team for now. I want to do other things. Free up my time a bit for the last month of summer.

I actually want to do some swimming. It just randomly crossed my mind one day, and it's something that I want to do, maybe build up my endurance or something. I miss swimming. Still looking around for a pair of goggles though..but then again, my search for them hasn't even really been..going on.

What else have I been up to? Lots of softball.

CCSA - H2O

The regular season is winding down. Our last games of the season are this weekend. We're currently sitting at 6-1-1.

The season's been interesting, I think. Defensively, we're playing alright. Could be better I suppose. Offensively, that's a different story. We're not hitting as well as we should be, and we're only winning because of our defense.

This is just my opinion though, but I think a lot my teammates agree with this assessment. We haven't been hitting smart and running the bases smart. It's got to change if we want to defend our championship.

SPN Mens - H2O

That would be Slo-Pitch Nationals (I believe). So far we've entered in two tournaments this summer and in both those tournaments we qualified for Provincials by placing 1st and 3rd (you need to finish top 4 in a tournament to qualify).

This team consists mostly of the men of H2O, with a few extra players - like Ben L and Bryan S.

This was actually a very different experience from CCSA H2O. Different in the sense that it's not team pitch and it's not 3-pitch. We actually face the other team's pitcher, with a count, a strike zone and with a paid SPN umpire. We can actually draw walks! LOL.

I like this style of play too because it actually challenges you as a hitter to be smarter and it seems that you really need to be sharper defensively.

Glen Abbey Slo-Pitch League - Niblick

After a quick 5-0 start, we've gone 5-9 since, bringing out current record to 10-9 with 3 games left to go. Our team should be able to win the next 3 games, but our team is very volatile.

The league is almost like SPN. There's an ump, you can walk, the other team pitches, but instead of a strike zone like they have in baseball, it's a mat on the ground. If the ball hits the mat, it's a strike. That's the only real difference between SPN tournaments and this league.

We have a few players on the team that have big mouths, but can't back it up. I know that I'm not the only one that feels this way. There's only one player on that team that really drives me up the wall because I feel like he thinks he's a know it all. It's very easy for me to get upset with him because he doesn't know how to play some of the positions he plays properly. However, I feel that he might be improving, because he knows it's pissing me off, and because I'm also trying to give him a few pieces of advice on how to play the position properly.

Aside from all that, I'm actually enjoying the team. The guys are very laid back and positive, even when we're losing. This team isn't like some other teams in the league where they're very serious and give each other a hard time if you make a mistake. With this team, they just shrug it off and encourage you. They're a great bunch of guys to play with. I'd definately consider playing with them again next season.

So that's softball. What else am I doing this summer?

MRSC - Ultimate Warriors

This is for Ultimate frisbee. Sarah K, my Joanna, and Enoch organized a team for the spring session. It was my first time playing Ultimate. The last time I threw a frisbee, I couldn't remember, but I've never played a game of Ultimate in my life until our very first practice scrimmage. I was DONE after that. It was so tiring, I think my legs were sore for the next week!

Our season started off slow as we were a new team, getting a feel for one another's style, strengths and weaknesses, and we had a lot of new comers playing the game for the first time. As the season progressed, we kept improving after every game. With every loss came a learning experience that was valuable.

It's a very proud accomplishment that we were able to beat the 2nd place team in the regular season by a big margin in the semi-finals and then play a real close game against the eventual winners (which had a few players that played Nationals). We established ourselves as one of the top teams in MRSC in just our first season.

We're hoping to be even better in the summer session.

So that's my sports wrap up for the summer. Maybe another update with non-sports related stuff another day.

Oh and to Jen - SHOUT OUT! ;P
