A Room
For some reason, the topic of a children's playroom has been a dominant topic between Jo and I lately. Actually, scratch the "for some reason" there is a perfectly good reason to as why we're even talking about this. Also, to get the record straight, in no way am I insinuating that Jo and I are even looking that far into our relationship, because we're not. It's just a hot topic at the moment, and perhaps in the future, I'll reveal why, but now is not the time to do so.
So, to the room.
My idea, as it is currently unfolding and is always in development in my head, is to have a fun children's room which can also be enjoyed by anybody at any age. Also keep in mind that this room may not be realistic in terms of money. I know it will cost a lot.
There is a room in the basement of my current home that has a wall painted in some weird art form. I think that room was a recreation room for the previous owners of the home. I have said that I would like to allow my children to draw on the walls of my home (when the time comes), but in only one room - the children's room or the recreation room. Now this could be one room in the house (preferably in the basement), or it could be the whole basement - depending on the size of the house I will be residing in.
The argument is that Jo doesn't want our kids drawing on the wall because then they'll think it's ok to draw on any wall, which is true as well, but I'm hoping that our kids will know better and listen to us when we say that it's the only room they should be drawing on. As hard as that may and will be for kids.
I think it would be fun to draw on the wall or even the floors, with any type of drawing material whether it be paint, pastels, crayons, chalk - whatever you can use to draw.
Now here is what makes it even more interesting. The walls will be made of canvas material. So paperish-clothe if you will (I don't know what it's called). Underneath the canvas (which can be replaced time and time again when the canvas is full or damaged), is foam or padding - much like those at a jungle gym or those blue mats from elementary school. So this children's room is not only a room where kids can play with their creative minds, but they can also horse around and not get seriously injured. Not only are the walls going to be padded, but the floors as well, thus the floors will have the canvass material as well. Everything will be canvassed. Everything can be taken apart. Everything can be replaced (except for the real wall and floors).
So think about it. These kids could have the freedom and the imagination to do many things in that room. They could paint. They could "wrestle". They could "paint wrestle" to make art. LOL. They could do a whole lot in that room, and even myself, I have some ideas of what I'd like to do in that room.
After the kids are all grown up, and by grown up, I mean, they're not kids anymore, but maybe adolescents/teenagers or adults, I will convert the room/basement into my own little entertainment area. The theme of the basement would be a sports bar with a projector as my TV. One side of the wall will be designated as the viewing screen. There will be leather couches and lazy-boys. There will be mini-fridges. There may even be a mini-kitchen down there. Keep in mind though. There will be no alcohol in my home.
Wow think about the possibilities. I wonder if it will become a reality..

Hmm...interesting....I get the idea though. I saw a special on tv where the wall was split horizontally. The top half was normal, the bottom was a blackboard for kids to draw on. I thought that was pretty cool :)
i want a room like that...
:D
SORRY JO! I have to agree with Benson this time. His idea is awesome!! They actually sell paint for walls that turn into either a big chalk board or whiteboard :) AND kids are very super smart. If you're strict and consistent with their boundaries (i.e - not allowed to draw anywhere else in the house) then I'm very sure they won't :)
P.S - Young kids focus on contrasting colours first (black/white) and then primary colours. Painting a baby room with pastel colours is a horrible idea! :)
