Passions

no not the stupid soap opera on tv. that's just dumb!

hockey & Marvel. i love 'em!

i was bored today, so i decided to go & look around Wikipedia. this place is awesome! anyway, i searched for the Colorado Avalanche, just because. :)

was just reading & reading about how the Avs built their team ever since they moved from Quebec to Colorado, & wow, Pierre Lacroix made a lot of good moves (if not, lucky!!)! well i think they stole the trade with the LA Kings when they traded Adam Deadmarsh & Aaron Miller for Rob Blake & Steven Reinprecht. Deadmarsh is like non-existent anymore 'cuz of concussion-like symptoms. well they did trade Reinprecht to the Calgary Flames for i dunno who.

anyway, i thing that made me smile the most was when they talked about the last Stanley Cup the Avs won back in 2000-01 (taken from Wikipedia):
The 2000-01 Avalanche were again a dominant powerhouse. They easily won the President's Trophy with a staggering 118 points and were poised to win Ray Bourque his first Stanley Cup after twenty-two years on the ice. Star forward Peter Forsberg had emergency spleen surgery after their second round series against the Los Angeles Kings and missed the rest of the playoffs. The Stanley Cup Finals was a grueling, very physical series between the Avalanche and the New Jersey Devils. After seven hard fought games the Avalanche had their second Stanley Cup championship. It is a tradition for the team captain to take the Stanley Cup from the commissioner and raise it above his head first and skate a lap around the rink before handing it to his teammates. But Joe Sakic broke that tradition in 2001 when he refused to lift the cup and in a true show of class handed it to Ray Bourque, who lifted it instead.
"..Joe Sakic...refused to lift the Cup and in a true show of class handed it to Ray Bourque, who lifted it instead." :D how can you not smile after that? how? that's just..awesome! :D :D Sakic's the man! Team Canada Captain! WOOO!

so after reading about the Avalanche, i decided, "hey, why not read up about the team they used to be, Quebec Nordiques?" so i clicked that link & found out a lot more about the team & their fortunes.

do you know how they transformed in to the powerhouse they were? it's pretty cool! it all started with a player named Eric Lindros. this is what it says in Wikipedia:
In 1991 the Nordiques once again had the first overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. The best player in that year's draft, Eric Lindros, warned Quebec not to draft him but the team chose him anyway. Lindros refused to sign with the team and began a holdout that would last over a year. Meanwhile the Nordiques finished out of playoff contention again in 1991-92. Finally on June 30, 1992, after confusion over whether Quebec traded Lindros to the Philadelphia Flyers or New York Rangers was settled, the Nordiques sent Lindros to the Flyers in exchange for forward Mike Ricci, goaltender Ron Hextall, defencemen Steve Duchesne and Kerry Huffman, "future considerations" which eventually became enforcer Chris Simon, two first-round picks and US$15 million. One of the draft picks was used by the Nordiques to select goaltender Jocelyn Thibault, the other was traded twice and ultimately used by the Washington Capitals to select Nolan Baumgartner. Also in the trade were the rights to a Swedish teenage prospect named Peter Forsberg. The deal - probably the single most significant NHL transaction of the entire decade - quickly transformed the Nordiques from a laughingstock to a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.

...

The Lindros deal proved a strong contender for one of the most one-sided trades not merely in hockey history, but professional sports history. Despite Lindros' fine career, no one would now -- in retrospect -- trade him even up for Forsberg, the star of the franchise for a decade and a probably future Hall of Famer. Ricci would give three useful seasons to the franchise before being traded for the draft choice used to select current star Alex Tanguay, while after Hextall's single season as the backstop for Quebec, he would be traded for longtime mainstay Adam Deadmarsh, who was in his own right traded for star defenceman Rob Blake. Thibault would, after the franchise shift to Denver, be traded for Montreal goalie Patrick Roy, one of the greats of all-time and the foundation for two future Stanley Cups.
that's just crazy man. out of the Lindros deal alone, they got Forsberg (Flyer now, how ironic), Ricci (turned into Tanguay), Hextall (who would be traded for Deadmarsh, who then would be traded for Blake), & Thibault (Roy, in turn). haha thanks for the Cup Lindros!! :D if only he could do that same for the Leafs huh! ;P

did you know that if the Nordiques never left Quebec that season, they were set on changing their logo? they would've changed from

to this:
i'd prefer the original (1st one) thank you very much!!!!

alright enough of hockey talk! time to move on to something a little different.

earlier today, i was talking to Andre (yet another irony, we were talking about hockey at first). then he told me that he was taking this X-Men personality test & he scored Jean Grey. then i said something about Famke Janssen (who plays Jean Grey in the X-Men movies). then it kinda lead into how mutants are hot & stuff, which then lead to how Rogue was suppose to be superhot.

in any case, it lead to the movie 'cuz i was saying how the movies aren't anything like the comics really. especially with the whole Bobby Drake (Iceman), Rogue, Logan (Wolverine) storyline they have. Iceman & Rogue NEVER hook up, & they aren't suppose to be kids. furthermore, Rogue is not suppose to be looked after by Wolverine, but instead, Rogue is suppose to be Jubilee.

did i lose anyone yet?

anyway, then i just go to proceed to say that if i were at the helm of the X-Men movies, i would've tried to make it as close to the comics as possible, just like Spider-Man. at least that's following the comic books somewhat (give or take a few details). Ratner right now is messing up the movie even more right now by bringing in a new mutant that doesn't even exist in the Marvel world. he just brought her in 'cuz he wanted to leave a mark on the franchise saying that he contributed something. Singer tried to do a good job & all, but i don't like how he kinda twisted everything. but nonetheless, the movies were enjoyable.

so my movie. what would i have done? well, in the first movie, the only bad thing really would be the lack of action that would've been seen. i would've took the X-Men back to their roots.

the X-Men would be assembled already, with the ORIGINAL X-MEN: Professor X, Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Angel, Beast, & Iceman, the youngest of the team. right off the bat, i guess you could say, they're in a battle with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants led none other than Magneto. the Brotherhood would consist of Magneto's kids, Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch, with Mastermind & Toad. they'd be battling it out for the first couple minutes for who knows what.

then, comes the battle between the two leaders, Professor X & Magneto. they'll have like a war of words or whatever. Xavier would be like, "Magnus why are you doing this, blahblahblah. don't you know that the world would be a better place if Homo Sapiens & Homo Sapien Superior were to co-exist?!" & then Magneto would shout back at Xavier, "Charles you FOOL! are you blind to see that the Homo Sapiens fear us & hate us? they would kill us if they had the chance! we mustn't give them a chance! they must be destroyed! Homo Sapien Superior must rule the world! Homo Sapiens should be OUR slaves. we, Homo Sapien Superior, are next in line in the evolution of the world! we ARE the FUTURE! don't you understand Charles? your DREAM doesn't exist!"

& then after that, they'd flashback for pretty much the remainder of the movie. it'll go all the way back to when Magneto was in the concentration camp, just as Singer did in the first X-Men movie, then fast fwd a bit to when Xavier & Magnus meet at some hospital in Europe & befriend each other & discover that they both have these special powers. then they'd show how both Magnus & Xavier together built Cerebro at the Xavier Mansion in New York. then they'd share their dreams. Xavier's co-existence dream, & Magnus' mutant dominating all dream. then it gets so blown out of proportion that they get into a fight somehow & Xavier gets paralyzed somewhere exotic. they were on a trip or something?

so after that, i dunno, i dunno if i would try & show how Xavier survived or not, but anyway, you'll find Xavier back at the mansion, using Cerebro to locate the first two would-be X-Men. Scott Summers (Cyclops) & Jean Grey. i guess with these characters, you could show a brief glimpse of their childhood, since they're pretty much kids. most mutants have their powers manifest when they hit puberty for those who don't really know anything about the mutant life (man i feel like a dork, but this is fun!).

so yeah, with Scott, you'll see him being pushed out of a burning plane by his parents. him & his bro would be using one parachute, & it's like burning up. you'll see Scott like bump his head on the ground or something. later in the movie you learn that the collision was essential 'cuz that's what causes Scott to lose control over his powers, which is why he has to wear those ruby quartz glasses (the red glasses). Xavier finds him in an orphanage & contacts him.

with Jean, she's living a normal life back at her home with her parents. her family is actually aware of her powers & aren't freaking out. at first, they'll reject Xavier's offer 'cuz they think they don't need his help. but later, Jean loses control, & that's when she gets enrolled.

after recruiting those two, Xavier finds the rest & i guess you could kinda do the same with them with the whole "look into their past" thing.

ok..so the team is assembled, they get to know each other. you can also try to add in Warren Worthington III (Angel) hitting on Jean. Scott's shyness to Jean (since he has the hots for her), Hank McCoy's (Beast) nerdiness & witty comments, & Bobby Drake's (Iceman)immature demeanor.

you'll also see them training & freaking out when they first hear Xavier's voice in their heads. the training would be done in the Danger Room, which we never really saw in the X-Men movies to date. & lalalala...it goes until present day (the beginning of the movie), their battle with the Brotherhood.

i guess, now that i think about it, i've only really focused on the X-Men side. you can probably also add in how the Brotherhood forms too. but i never really knew how the Brotherhood formed anyway. so i guess ppl can use their imagination on how the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants formed.

so yeah..that's how my movie would've went...give or take. the first X-Men. it'd be titled just like the first X-Men comic book was titled: The X-Men.

subsequent movies would be i guess storylines from the X-Men world.

however, the X-Men movies could be incorporated into MARVEL-WIDE storylines that i wouldn't mind seeing movie adaptations to. those would be the The Phoenix Saga, X-Cutioner Song, The Legacy Virus, Onslaught, & Operation: Zero Tolerance. the coolest one i think would be a 3hr movie on Age of Apocalypse. that would be awesome, or make it into a 3-part trilogy like Lord of the Rings. OMG that would be so COOL! i'm excited just thinking about it! hahahaha...

huh..funny, i never knew that Bryan Singer was gay. *raises a brow* not that it makes a difference. i just never knew he was gay.

oh oh and in other news, there's gonna be a new animated X-Men series, but it will primarily feature Wolverine. haha Wolvie's COOL mang! don't mess! that comes out in 2007. i can't wait!

AND, there's gonna be several movie spin-offs from the X-Men movies. Wolverine, Magneto, & perhaps even Mystique will get their own movies! soo cool!

anyway, on the topic of Marvel or X-Men..i did that personality test that Andre did, & this is my result. i'm the soft-spoken, yet strong Colossus. the only downside is that he's bisexual (in the Ultimate storyline anyway). :S i'm not a bisexual. i don't think the picture works, but whatever!

You scored as Colossus. Colossus is the strongest X-Man physically. His love for his family and his sister Illiana make him strong. Although he can be prone to fits of rage, he has a big heart under that organic steel skin. Powers: Can change his skin into organic steel making him nearly invunerable and exponentially increasing his strength
