Back At It!
September 11, 2005
wow, it's September 11th.. :S do you remember what you were doing on the fateful day of 9/11? i think i know what i was doing. i was probably in class or something. and when i first heard about the terroist attacks on the World Trade Centre (twin towers), i had no idea what everyone was talking about and the significance of the building. i never knew how important to the economy these two buildings were until after 9/11. shows how much i know about the world huh? and then after watching news videos of the planes crashing into the WTC, i seriously thought i was watching a movie, but it was real. it was a shocker, and still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
anyway, on to more lighter sitautions..that include yours truly here.
so, now i'm sitting in my room, with nothing to do. as is always the case on the first couple days back in Waterloo. no internet means nothing to do. how sad. really. i've said it time and again, it's really sad how we rely on the internet so much these days as a means of entertainment and communication.
so anyway, i guess i'll briefly recap the weekend. i don't even remember when the last time i updated, i think maybe Thursday about golfing on Saturday. i guess i'll be able to check when i post this..whenever i get the internet here. by the time you read this, i could probably already answer my own question.
so on Friday, what did i do? i think i went out to run a view errands after sleeping-in (oh how sweet it is to sleep-in!). went to No Frills, Shoppers Drug Mart, Canadian Tire to name a few stores. also made stops at CIBC, and Andre's place.
had Swiss Chalet for dinner with my family too. then in the evening i went over to Odie's place to watch Crash with her and her parents coming in and out of the room. haha, i was being watched supposedly. well it felt like it at least, even though i was sitting across the room in a chair, while she was all snuggled up with 3 of her Popples. maybe her mom doesn't like me now 'cuz she told her how i put PC Popple in Eric's fridge like 3-4yrs ago. hahaa..that was funny! but they all think it's cruel. they have a weird bond. :P haha..ODIE CRIED IN THE MOVIE!
anyway, so that was Friday, after that i also laid out a few more things for the move on Sunday and went to bed at around 2.30-3am.
woke up Saturday morning at 8am. i was originally planning on waking up at 7am, but my alarm clock didn't go off. grr! it's so annoying sometimes. anyway, 8am was when Silas was suppose to get Joel, which he was probably on time for. so i quickly brushed my teeth, washed my face, took a shower, put on my "softball gear", contacts in, gel hair, grab extra clothes, backpack, baseball bag, fanny pack with my wallet and stuff, hat, cleats. all that in about 20mins. i don't think i ever got ready that fast..ever.
so yeah, i was suppose to move up to Waterloo on Saturday, but asked my dad if we could do it on Sunday instead so i could play in the softball tournament that Silas' company was having. so my dad was cool with that, so i got to play. if i didn't play the tournament, i probably would've went to play football with the MCBC ppl instead.
so yeah, Silas came and got me at around 8.25am or so, and left for Meadowvale where the tournament was being held. the diamonds were pretty small, but then we thought Formosan diamonds at Milliken Mills was small, so i wasn't thinking about hitting homeruns. ok maybe i was a little haha. but yeah, left and right field were 225ft, and center was 255ft. so relatively small. i don't remember how big Milliken Mills was.
so the first game was at 9am. none of the teams there really had any names, just team number whatever. we were team 4, not that it matters anyway. so our team got off to a slow start, but i was able to jumpstart our offense. in my first at-bat i was wondering how far i could hit the ball, so i purposely hit it foul..it cleared the fence. HAHAHA..and Joel said i did a half-swing too..haha..*shrugs* i don't know. then i did it again on the 2nd pitch, but not purposely, on the last pitch, i was able to hit a triple to center. good start, now i know i can hit it out of the park. 2nd at-bat, cranked a 3-run shot to left field! WOO! my first ever homerun in a game! haha it was exciting rounding the bases! in my last at-bat, i hit a rbi double, so i was just one off hitting the cycle (homerun, triple, double, single in any order). it was fun!
also, we had a teammate that used to be in the Blue Jays farm system! how cool is that?! this guy was our power hitter, he hit like 4-5 homeruns the whole tournament for us. he's a big man too. so yeah, he was a pitcher in the farm system. i should've figured 'cuz when i was playing catch with him, he was throwing them pretty hard, effortlessly! lol, every time, it made that ball-glove sound when you catch the ball hard. seriously, he was hurting my hand after a while! and i wasn't even catching it right at the palm! crazy i tell ya!
during the break, Vince came by on his bike to come cheer us on, so we just chatted a bit, while we ate some bbq food. everything was free! food, drinks..yums! we didn't really take advantage though 'cuz we didn't want to be heavy for our next game at 11am-ish. i just ate a burger and drank some apple juice. i had the option of drinking a Pepsi, but i refrained! aren't you proud?! i said NO to Pepsi! :P
so yeah, 2nd game was a blur for me. hit a bunch of singles and doubles for the most part. i don't remember much of the game, but i know it was a blowout.
that was it for the round robin, and we placed 2nd in our pool. that means we played the 1st place team in the other pool. there were only 4 teams per pool and top 2 advance to playoffs.
so in the semifinal game, Vince played! haha, he was up to his usual self, being the Batman Award winner he is. haha..backing up everyone on the field. :P i was able to jumpstart our team offensively by hitting a leadoff homerun, but after that we just struggled to do anything offensively. our bats just weren't there, and our defence wasn't stellar either. suffice to say, we lost the game by about 5 runs, so not too bad.
after the game, Silas, Joel, Vince, and i just had some batting practice, or more like..trying to hit it out of the park! lol..Silas tried first, but didn't manage to hit any out, although he was close on a couple. i went up after and hit 6 out, and then Vince tried and got one, and Joel stopped after hitting one himself. then Silas tried a 2nd time, but i think he was tired 'cuz nothing went close to the warning track. :( i went up after him and hit another 4 out. hehe, it's such a thrill to hit it out of the park. 'cuz those are legit homeruns! now if only MCBCSL had fenced diamonds like this! lol..i could go for a jack on every at-bat. haha..but i dunno, if they were fenced at 225ft-255ft, i think a lot of ppl can hit it out in MCBCSL so that would result in high scoring games. but who am i to talk! hitting homeruns are fun! :P
after were tired of hitting, we left and watched a bit of the championship game. didn't know who won 'cuz we left before it ended, but i think the team that we lost to lost the finals. but that's just what i think. so yeah, got dropped off at home by Silas and showered. then Vince came and picked me up and headed over to Joel's to figure out plans for the night.
we went to Swiss Chalet for dinner, Phil and Viv joined us (Vince, Joel, Silas, and i). yeah, i had it a 2nd night in a row, but that's alright. the waitress was cute. oh yeah, i forgot to mention that there was a cute asian girl that played in the 9am game. haha, she was pretty good too! i was impressed. HAHAHAHA..the guys wouldn't stop teasing me about her. oh well. one-time thing. :P it's over now! so anyway, yeah, dinner was dinner. then we decided not to go bowling (original plan) and went to Vince's instead and played Burnout 3 for pretty much the whole night while the guys were busy planning their trip to Boston to visit Rebecca. strange developments but everything was under control by the end with the plans.
so got home and just packed everything up and went to bed at around 3am. had to wake up at 9am and this time my alarm WORKED! sheesh!
left at 10.15am, 15mins behind "schedule". we were gonna have breakfast at Macy's Restaurant (i thought my family boycotted the place, but i dunno..), but it wasn't open that early, so we just went to Burger King instead. kids these days are so rude. one of the employees that was working there was cleaning the windows on the door, and then when my dad walked to the door, the girl just opens the door and walks in herself without even holding it open for my dad. the door just shut infront of him. my dad gave us a weird look like, what the heck, ruuuude! and it was rude! my brother and i just laughed, but it was rude man. bad manners.
and then when we went to order, the girl who took our order didn't even seem to like her job (well i wouldn't be happy if i worked there either i guess), and she kinda seemed to have a toothpaste ring around her mouth. hahhaa..how embarassing. looked more like a tan line or something to me though. haha oh well..
10.45am, left BK, filled up gass, and off to Waterloo. i was pretty tired and i had to drive up. i was starting to doze off by the end of the trip. NOT GOOD! but yeah, we arrived at around 11.30am-ish, unloading took about half an hr, so it was good time. then that was it, said byes to brother and dad.
i took my time unpacking my room, trying to figure out how i wanted the layout. thinking about different possible layouts and all. well right now, i have one, and it's alright for now i guess. maybe i'll change it for 2nd term. who knows. all i know is that i need a bookshelf. that's pretty much the only think i really need here. everything else is pretty good. oh i need drapes too.
so bored here. i set up the tv downstairs and watched the San Diego Chargers/Dallas Cowboys match up until halftime (the tv started to go crazy) so i gave that up, and took a nap. woke up and went and got dinner at Bubble Tease. just had beef fried rice. i think i was overpriced but i didn't care. i was hungry! while i was waiting, i was just in time to see Roger Federer win the U.S. Open over Andre Agassi. Federer is the man! 23-0 in finals the last 2 years! that's incredible! but it was good to see that Agassi still has what it takes to make it to the final. it'd be nice to see him win one more major tournament.
so came home and watched Happy Gilmore while eating my dinner. i love that movie. haha.. i don't even remember what i did after that. i think i was reading a Time magazine when Gabe arrived, and then Betty arrived shortly after. then went to the computer labs on campus for about an hr, came back and played Smackdown vs RAW on Gabe's PS2 for a bit, and now i'm sitting here typing this up.
what am i gonna do tomorrow? i guess you'll find out in the next paragraph! g'nite!
September 12, 2005
so, i wake up at 12.30pm today (today being Monday), and just sat around in my room for about an hour..just doing..nothing. just sitting. anyway, i finally got off my butt and had lunch and watched The Fast and the Furious. i tried to watch The Fifth Element on the PS2, but Gabe modded the chip so now doesn't read DVDs no more. boo! oh well.
after that, i kinda cleaned up a little of my room, and made mental notes of what i needed for my room. kleenex and a bookshelf, for now. then i got bored of being in my room doing nothing, so i headed off to campus to the computer labs and sat there for about 2hrs..just chatting away, surfing the net and whatnot.
at around 5.40pm i headed off to the SLC to see what was going on with the UWCCF New Student Reception. they just started so a lot of ppl were just still mingling and stuff. chatted with a few ppl that i knew and stuff.
6pm headed off to MC 4041 for the UW Badminton Club meeting, or more like info session. that took like 20mins. what a waste of time. anyway, paid the fee and got out of there and went back to NSR, just in time for free pizza! yay for free food! :P haha..had 3 slices. mm good. then enjoyed the rest of the NSR. i actually didn't meet any froshies..only the ones that i knew from MCBC. i know bad, but meh!
so that ended at around 8pm-ish and just loitered for another 30mins. walked home with Anna, Alison, and Jacqueline (i think those are the names of the last two girls! :S). on the way back, i bumped into an old notetaker of mine, back when i took Anthropology 101 in a winter term. so we had a pretty good chat and stuff. found out that she was in one of my classes too! and she even offered to take notes for me! how cool is that? very considerate of her! :)
got home and then played a bit of Smackdown vs Raw again, and then Gabe came back from Brampton (left earlier in the day for personal matters at home). anyway, so yeah, helped him move some stuff up for the living room.
10.15pm was the Kershaw (where i'm living in WCRI) block meeting. pretty standard..and boring. what can ya do. i tried for the snow shovelling rep position, but they didn't vote me in. boo. haha oh well. so that went quick.
came back and arranged the living and kitching quarters of the house, and then..yeah..right now we're stealing internet from some wireless signal. haha..but we'll be getting our internet set up tomorrow. so that should be good.
ahh..should get some sleep i suppose..long day of classes tomorrow!

2 Web Spinners:
slightly amused over this entry...and i think you should know why =P
Does it not get tiring going back and forth getting those home run balls? Well I guess your probably good enough to hit it where you want to. Me, I'd be lucky to hit it. And it goes where it wants when i do :)
