Long weekend. This one was packed with stuff to do.
Friday, hit up National Sports and SportChek to find some black shirts for this weekend's Formosan Cup Tournament, which is a softball tournament. More on the tournament later. I didn't find anything I liked at Nationals, but my brother bought another black stick (those black marks on baseball players faces), and a pair of baseball socks. I got my stuff over at SportChek, got myself a long sleeve black shirt and another long sleeve two shade of gray shirt, along with a black t-shirt, and 2 other t-shirts (baby blue and ...blue. Hahaa). All Matrix brand.
Later Friday night, got a call from Vince asking if I wanted to go see Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. So I went 'cuz I was doing nothing. Movie was hilarious. I love movies that have so many good one-line catch phrases. Was saying those for the rest of the weekend! LOL...I WANNA GO FAST!! SHAKE 'N BAKE!! Hahaha so good. :P
Saturday, I had a dentist appointment in the morning. I was late. Hahaha..Oops! But everything went smoothly. No cavities! W00T! Then in the afternoon from 2-6pm I was umping CCSA games at Glamorgan Park with Jon and Joel. It was alright. Really hot. There was a hot-headed player who thought he was a superstar. He was a good player, but don't argue calls and pout when the rest of your team don't care. I didn't ump the 6pm game 'cuz I didn't want to, and Vince arrived, so I was heckling Alison with Rebecca instead. Hehehe..and also just chatting with Silas and Rebecca during the game. Good times.
After all the umping and stuff, hung out with some of the H2O guys, and guest of honour, Sylvia! The first time hanging out with her since she's been back, and now she's leaving us again for BC real soon. Gonna miss her...again. At least she's coming back at Christmas. Anyway, the evening was cool. We went to Galleria at Commerce Gate (I think) for a late dinner. Afterwards, we all went bowling, but not all of us bowled. Personally, I sucked. I blame it on the fobby/club music. I can only bowl with good music...like hip hop or something. Lol..I had to pull out my own music while I was bowling. :P
Vince drove me home afterwards and we had a pretty good discussion in the car about life, cars, and frustrations. Hahaha..it was a good talk. Thanks for listening bud.
Sunday. Church as usual. My bro and I had to leave service early 'cuz my parents wanted to eat out for lunch at Macy's Chinese Restaurant before the Blue Jays game. So we paid for lunch, since Dad was paying for the Jays game. It was Cito Gaston Bobblehead Doll Day, but we never got any 'cuz we got there too late, so that sucked. A bunch of ppl from H2O also went to the game and Joel was the only one that got a bobblehead. Vince got shafted by kids who were just taking them at will. Punks!
The Jays game itself was pretty good. It was the last game of a 3-game series against the Chicago White Sox and A.J. Burnett was on the mound against Jose Contreras. They finally broke their 7-game losing streak, and they also won everyone at the game a free pizza for getting 7+ strikeouts! W00T! :D Like usual, I scored the game 'cuz it's a fun thing to do at a baseball game. I even have my own scorebook! :D
After the game, we all met up since some of us sat separately. Vince and Joel had tickets Joel's parents didn't use. Silas bought a bunch of tickets for a few people. Joe and Alice sat on their own. Jay and I sat with our family. So we all headed down to Markham T&T Supermarket to eat dinner. And then after that some of us headed over to Milliken Mills Park where the Formosan Cup was being held and watch a couple games. Some others went to Boston Pizza to do I don't know what.
Our first game for the tournament was at 8.20pm against a team called San Fran Falcons. Apparently their Mens Team won the Mens Tournament. We're in the co-ed tournament for your information..hahaha. :P So yeah, and apparently they have already blown out the other two teams in our division. So they apparently sat back this game and let us have it in purpose. That apparently sucks. :P I put in apparently in purpose there 'cuz I just realized that I used it a lot in this paragraph. So yeah, we beat them something like 15-3.
Oh, our team name was Redemption by the way. Fitting since we played two of the teams we played in last year's tournament, and eventually the third team later in the playoffs. And we didn't play particularly well last year. More on playoffs further in the post.
Second game was against SCAC Spirit at 9.30pm. This is the team that gave H2O their first lost in CCSA. We were able to achieve "redemption" (hahhaa) by beating them soundly, 16-9 (I think).
So not a bad first day of the tournament. I love playing under the lights. I love playing at night. The only downside to it are the freaking mosquitos. But man, it was fun. Another thing I liked about this tournament are the diamonds. I love the type of dirt/gravel, we were playing on. It was a clay-like substance. Unlike gravel, it doesn't cut you up so easily. On this type of playing surface, I wasn't afraid of sliding headfirst without getting all scraped up. Sliding headfirst is also fun. I got to do it once that night. But I think I ate some of it..and some of it got in my eyes since I wasn't wearing sunglasses.
Second day, Monday morning. Our first game was against New Life at 9.40am. This is a team we didn't like from last year 'cuz they kept half-swinging and chopping the ball, as a result they knocked us out of the tournament. I have no idea why the ump wasn't calling any of it 'cuz it's illegal, but whatever, that was in the past. Today was a new day. We got off to a real slow start and played catch up pretty much the entire game. In the end, we were able to keep the game tied. Tang and Rebecca had the play of the game at home that saved us a run.
After the round robin, we ended up finishing 3rd out of 12, just missing a first round bye by a win. In the first round we played Beatitudes. I had a friend playing on that team, Glendon. They roughed us up in the first inning for 10runs and that's what pretty much all they needed. If we could take back that first inning, the game would've been a different story. So we lost. And awaited the loser of the Toronto Gold and Miracles game. They went into extra innings.
We ended up playing Miracles in consolation round, the team that beat us last year in extras in the round robin. This tournament was double-knockout, so we still had a chance at the Cup. We were looking to take advantage of them being tired from the extra inning game, and the fact that they've lost for the first time this season at this tournament (they're 10-0 in CCSA). We were able to get off to a quick start with 2 in the top of the first inning, but after that we were only able to score another 2 for the rest of the game. We lost 7-4, knocking us out of the tournament.
After all said and done. Our second day was a bust. I don't think we played bad, we were just outplayed. Personally, I think I could've played a lot better defensively. I threw too many balls away. Most of my errors were throwing errors. Something I'm not very happy about. It needs work. I feel like Russ Adams of the Blue Jays. Or maybe even Chuck Knoblauch. Nah, I'll never be as bad as Chuck Knoblauch. LOL. :P I would've played more outfield if my legs were 100%, which they were not. I was having problems with my hamstring before the tournament even started, but I was able to play through it at 3B.
Offensively, I think I played well. I was perfect on day one (1.000 batting average), and almost perfect on day two (flew out 3 times in 3 games). I wasn't able to be too aggressive on the basepaths though 'cuz of my hamstring. It's strained or something. I need to rest it up for next weekends doubleheader on Saturday. I really hope it'll be healed up by then.
So we won 2 on day one, and lost 2 and tied 1 on day two, bring our Formosan record for 2006 to 2-2-1. Better than last year when we went 1-4, I think. But that was a different team.
After the tournament, most of us went to Boston Pizza for an early dinner. Good times, lots of jokes.
So this Civic long weekend, to sum up in one word and 3 letters = F-U-N. :D
But now...back to work. At least it's a short week. When's the next holiday? :P Labour Day Weekend....
