A Day of Surprises
first surprise of the day came in Contemporary Japanese Society class. we got our midterms back. i was expecting not to receive a good mark on the essay portion of the test, even tho it's only worth 5 marks. i ended up with a 4.5/5 on that section and finished the exam with a 72%. which is okkkk, considering that i didn't read most of the chapters in the textbook and studied mostly from class notes and notes from my East Asian Studies class that i took a few terms ago.
second surprise also came in CJS. my essay is due next week, March 8th. WHAT?! yeah it took my by surprise because i thought all along, for some reason, that the paper was due March 15th. so i had everything planned out. this week, focus on my Holocaust & Film paper due March 8th. and then next week devote most of my time to the CJS paper, and some to the test i have on March 14th for Soundtracks: Music in Film.
*sigh*..so this totally messes up my plan. i wrote an email to my prof for CJS to see if i could get an extension. if i can great, if not, then well, yeah i have to work my ass off now wouldn't i? i'm hoping that he'll give it to me. i'll try to get it done for Tuesday i guess..but, if i get the extension, i probably won't work as hard to get it done..but probably try to for early in the week so i can concentrate on the test for S:MiF.
third surprise of the day just happened. i'm bored. so i just typed my name in for Google, and guess what? i have a character in Coach Carter! haha..there's actually a character with my exact name in that movie. the dude that plays him, or me..hehe..is Roger Lim. haha i'm famous!! :P
man i need a life.
oh yeah, i also got my mark back for my Sociology of Mental Disorder midterm. not happy with it. everything but the essay portion was done well. i got totally screwed over by the essay part. apparently i didn't answer the question, so i lost a lot of marks. so gay. gotta do well on the final now..hopefully it's a little easier.
i found out my exam schedule too. it's quick and painful. haha..yeah..i'm done early again this term, so ppl don't hate me, hate the school. :P April 12, 7pm, and April 13, 9am. finished. summer vacation starts..which really is, look for a job.
so while i was in CJS class, i was thinking weird stuff 'cuz i don't really like to listen to the prof babble about useless things that we don't need to know. so i was thinking, why does apple juice give me so much gas. it doesn't go up either, so the whole class, i was fighting to hold my farts in. and you know, when you do that sometimes it just hurts your stomach. lol..man when i got home, i was letting it rip! hahahaha..also, i thought that if you needed to fart, chances are you need to poo too. right? yeah..for me sometimes that's the case. so when i got home, and letting it rip, i was also sitting on the can, so yeah..you can guess what happened! haha..it felt good! hahaha..what a relief! :D
anyway, aside from all that gross stuff, i was also thinking about some things that are actually related to class. we were talking about ethnocentrism in Japan and how it's not really diverse, but there's several visible minorities there. so i was thinking, if you're a Chinese kid and you're born in Japan, and you speak Japanese, would you think that you're a Japanese (barring the fact that your parents would tell you that you're Chinese), or would you figure it out on your own? 'cuz y'know Japanese and Chinese ppl are very similar. for me, i wouldn't be able to tell the difference between most Asian races. like Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Filipinos. sometimes it's easy to tell, other times it's almost impossible to know.
it was funny when the prof was telling us that the Chinese ppl in Canada and US had to wear like pins to distinguish themselves as Chinese ppl during the WWII period 'cuz of what happened at Pearl Harbour. if you were Chinese and you weren't wearing a pin, chances are you got your ass kicked 'cuz ppl would think that you're Japanese. come to think of it, it's not THAT funny, but it kinda is. y'know what i mean?
anyway, i sit infront of annoying classmate in CJS. she annoys the crap out of me. she's a mathie, and very outspoken. sometimes i want to tape her mouth shut. she didn't say anything today tho.
today in H&F class, we watch The Pianist. interesting movie, altho i have some criticism on the movie. it was almost like a Cast Away. dialogue in the beginning of the movie, limited dialogue in the middle, and some in the end. plus, we don't know what happened to the family after he gets pulled out of the line. like are they dead or what? anyway, Adrian Brody is a talented actor i must say. he can play the piano pretty well (i think he's actually playing it). however, his eyebrows are freaking annoying!
anyway, i think i've spoken..incoherently, but point got across..
