Poker and Seekers (W2005): Game Four: 6-0 L
not completely accurate but from That 70s Show:
the boys are in jail..
Hyde: man, i think it's my mom's poker night.
Kelso: isn't every night poke-her night for your mom?
hahaha..
anyway on with it. i left off talking about Thursday night's hot pot right? right.
so Friday was a pretty busy day as well. i started off the day by eating lunch. hehe. alright, none of that stupid stuff. i went to the Central Library to do some research for my Contemporary Japanese Society paper. i found some books that i think i could use, i just skimmed through them, hopefully they're full of useful information. i wanted to make photocopies from an encyclopedia 'cuz you can't take those out of the library right. but as i was headed towards doing that, i find that i have to purchase a mint card. so i thought, screw it. so i just took out my own paper and made my own notes. halfway through reading and writing notes for that section, i thought to myself, "i wonder if the UW libraries have it in Waterloo." so i got up and proceeded to an internet station there. search the Trellis system, and voila. yes they do. so i immediately go back to my table and pack up and leave.
hahaha..anyway, as i was signing my books out, i remembered that my brother told me that his card didn't work when he was trying to sign out books earlier that week, so i was sure that my card wasn't gonna work too. i tried anyway, but yeah i had to get a new library card. they're not so flimsy now and a complete makeover..which is, i guess, expected. anyway, as i was getting my new card, this middle-aged asian woman was serving me. i had to give her my driver's license as identification right..but, for some reason she couldn't read. i had to repeat my address after her and correct her if she read it wrong. she even wrote the wrong initial on my library card. she wrote a "C" instead of a "S" as my middle initial. it clearly says "S"! aiya..how did she get this job..maybe she was having a bad day.
dinner with family at Mandarin. that's it.
Friday night was Texas Hold'em Poker night with my highschool friends at Ani's place. it was rather really interesting. the night started at 9, Gordon picked me, Mohammed and Ben (at church) in that order and we headed over to Ani's in North York. so we started playing some poker at about 9ish-pm. first game, everyone put in $5. later some of the pot money was taken out to pay for pizza. i think the winner of that game took home $11-12, while 2nd took $1 haha..i dunno how they split the remaining pot. i think i finished 3rd. the play of the game belonged to Jenise taking out Ben. i had to confirm with Ben on the play. Ben had a flush (5 of same suit) draw with King high; however Jenise had the same flush draw, but won on Ace high. hahaha..dang, close but no cigar. hahaha..it was a nice move indeed. very sneaky! the winner eventually was Mohammed over Jenise.
so the game took about 3-4 hrs. after that we took a break and started to play one of our old school highschool card games. Big 2 with positions (meaning there's trading). so we played that for a while and then Chris, my cousin, shows up at 2am from a party. so he was adamant that we start another poker game so he could play.
this time, it was a $2 game. but the pot got pretty big 'cuz a lot of ppl didn't care and kept buying in. Ani bought in once, Chris bought in 3 times. i forget if anyone else bought in. buying in means that if you're out (run out of chips) within the first hour of play, then you can pay another "entry fee" so you can play again. again, Jenise provided the play of the game once again, and it was on Ben again. haha..Ben was so confident with his two pair that he went all in. Jenise matched him, and when the cards were being flipped, Ben had thought he won, but then Jenise flips over a 3-of-a-kind and beats him. HAHAHAAH! POWNED!!! :P SCHOOLED! whatever you want to call it! hahaha..it was so funny! to lose once..ok, but twice? haha that's just too funny. a close 2nd involved Mohammed and i. the situation was that i was fighting to stay in, it was either all-in (bet everything i had) or fold. i waited until i had some good cards before i went all in. i found good cards in a pair Kings. Mohammed matched me and had a pair 2s. things were looking really good for me until i got rivered (lost on the last card). Mohammed ended up getting a flush out of the hand. booo! lol..at least i didn't lose with nothing. :P the winner for this game was Ani over Mohammed and...someone else..i forget. so a pretty good showing for Mohammed on this night! :)
so anyway, THAT game ended at around 4ish-am. everyone was so tired. everyone would've went home at about 2am, but Chris showed up. but what peeved me was that he fell asleep while we were playing. some of us were like, "yo, we're playing because of you man, wake up!" and then, Gordon also had to drive him home 'cuz he subwayed to Ani's place, so we had to backtrack from North York to Markham to drive him home, and then we were on our way home. by the time we got home, it was around 6am. i was beat. surprisingly, my parents didn't even lecture me or anything.
but yeah, when i woke up the following morning (yeah morning! 11.30am!!) i felt like crap. i seriously thought i was coming up with something 'cuz i was getting the sniffles. so after i went grocery shopping, i crashed for a couple more hours and felt fine.
on Saturday evening, i met up with Ayse for some bubble tea at, you guessed it, Bubble Republic. we had a bad experience the last time we went to 168. so yeah, BR is fast and good. so why not. i was in a rush anyway. we met at BR at around 8.45pm, and i had to leave at 9.15pm. we left at 9.20pm hehe..'cuz i had hockey to play at 10pm and i need to be at the rink to get ready at 9.30pm. but yeah, bubble tea with Ayse was good, we caught up with each other a little. the oh-so-famous question is always asked, "so any potentials?" so yeah, let's not indulge in that area of the conversation. :) we also bumped into some younger Erindale Secondary alumnus, Renee and Kat. it was nice seeing them again, even if it was brief. :)
Saturday hockey. we only had 9 skaters and 2 goalies show up this time and we played 4on4. so one team had to play with no subs. i'm lucky i played on the team with the one sub. it was so tiring. i had some pretty good scoring chances. i had a chance where i was parked infront of the net, point blank on my friend, Steve, but nooo, he had to rob me with a nice glove save. i admit, i was pretty haha..bastard!! :P and then the other chance i had was on a breakaway, but i hit the damn post on the stick side! BLAAAH! at least i set up a goal. haha.. :P
Sunday. church, and then back to Waterloo to catch our Seekers game at 3pm. we lost 6-0. yup, we got our butts mercied. we didn't have a goalie, so we had an extra man on the ice. so we couldn't really get anything going. before the game, we did have a backup goalie ready to play for us. but we made the mistake of asking the C-Cups goalie to play for us. overall the guy is a nice person, but i think his girlfriend is a *****. he's whipped too. :P remember the C-Cups is the all-girls team we played last term and we didn't like them 'cuz they played dirty. anyway, the girlfriend tells the boyfriend that the team is going somewhere (during our game) and that she "really" wants him to go with her/them. so yeah, you can guess what happened. so retarded. losing more and more respect for their team. i swear, and this is only my opinion, i think that the girlfriend deliberately and undirectly asked him not to play for us. oh well, whatever. no mercy for them if we see them in the playoffs. and if they give us a bad SOC score which results in us being disqualified from the playoffs, i will kick their arses...ok probably not, but i'd really feel like it!
so anyway, unpacked for the rest of the afternoon, and then Andre came over after dropping his sister off at Laurier. we ordered 2 medium stuffed-crust pizzas from Pizza Hut. mmm..goood, i haven't had Pizza Hut in a long time, even longer for stuffed-crust! while we were eating, we watched the old squash tape that i dug out from the camcorder i brought back up to Waterloo. about 2yrs ago, i used to tape squash matches between Lawrence, Jeff, Ben and i when we all played at the PAC. it was fun, we had commentating and everything. altho the tape i had, the commentating only worked for half of the tape, it was still fun to watch. this was also the tape where Lawrence coined Jeff's infamous nickname, Homo J, which has stuck with him for some ppl. haha..and Ben's not so famous nickname, The Bee Stinger. lol..those were fun times. my two favourite quotes from it is "Ben is sweating like a prostitute at church" and "keep it PG, Homo J, PG." hahaha..so funny..hahaha..
so yeah..then i watched the opening monologue by Chris Rock for the Oscars, which was pretty good i thought. some pretty good jokes here and there. i thought he was a good host from the little bit i saw. i took a nap a few awards in 'cuz i had a throbbing headache. i woke up in time to see the Best Actor, Director and Movie awards. Jamie Foxx for Ray, Clint Eastwood for Million Dollar Baby, and Million Dollar Baby won the respective awards.
oh yeah, i noticed that Easyjournal got like a big huge facelift. if you want to check it out, visit my old blog at spideymang.easyjournal.com. it looks totally different from what it was before, but it kinda looks more like a blogspot format/layout.
