Events Galore...and More!
Alright, I got some things to talk about now.
Let's start with some events I've had since my last post. Why not just list them first.
December 13 - CT Christmas Lunch:
My department had a Christmas lunch over at Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant. The food was alright, the pop was flat, so overall..it was meh. I'm sure it can be a lot better. But yeah, it was my first real social event with my department, my team, so it was a bit...weird. But that's ok, got to start somewhere right? It's not like I stayed quiet the WHOLE time, I did add in some viewpoints and whatnot here and there. I'm not gonna be a complete stiff! :P
During the lunch, or rather, before our food was served to us, we did a draw for the Secret Santa. I actually drew my co-worker I work beside. We also made a schedule for who would be in charge of bringing snacks and food for the department for the following week. It's a Christmas tradition in our department. So there were 3 ppl to a day basically. I scheduled myself in for the Monday (brought in my mom's fried rice, and my sister's shortbread cookies).
Anyway, after the lunch, we were actually free to do what we wanted to do for the rest of the day! So it was half day for us! W00T! That's pretty sweet! So, I headed off to the Eaton Centre to do some more Christmas shopping. There was a particular item I was looking for ALL OVER THE PLACE, literally, and I finally found it in the Eaton Centre, it cost me, but I don't care! :P I found it! Yeaaayayaaaaaa!
After picking up a few other items, I finally made my way back towards Mississauga and met up with a friend at Square One to do a bit more Christmas shopping. I was actually early in doing my Christmas shopping this year and you know what, I'm glad I'm not a part of that Christmas rush of shoppers at the mall. Dunno, if I'd be able to stand the shoppers, pushing and shoving, and just not being able to find anything I wanted to get for my family.
December 14 - WiCKED:
WiCKED. In one word - awesome. I didn't know what to expect going into the show, but it was definately a pleasant surprise! I really liked the story it told and the performances by the actresses and actors were phenomenal. There voices were pretty powerful, just belting out those tunes. I really liked how humourous the musical was too, I really liked that about the play. I also liked how they tied the movie Wizard of Oz into the story, after all it is suppose to be the prequel to the movie...it is the untold story of the two witches and how they became the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North.
Prior to going to see WiCKED, I went to meet up with Jen, Justin, Melissa, and Vince at Salad King in downtown Toronto. They also came to see WiCKED with me. That place, Salad King, has been revamped since the last time I've been there, which was like probably 10yrs ago. The place looks a lot better now then it did the first time I went. The food was pretty good too. Good food, good conversations, good company.
December 16 - CT Christmas Gala:
The Canadian Tire Christmas Gala. The theme of the night was Fire & Ice. So my table was an Ice table, and I sat with my sister, my brother-in-law Keith, my Keith's cousin, his date, and my Keith's co-worker and friend, and his date. I was the only one that went stag.
So let's talk about what I didn't eat. HAHAA.. I didn't drink the soup. It was, I think, butternut squash or something. And then the next course was salad, and EVERYONE knows I don't eat salad. I even told the server not to put any on my plate.
I did eat the main course, which was chicken in some red wine sauce, I think, and the dessert was chocolate mousse cheesecake, which was pretty good. Normally I don't like cheesecake, but this one had chocolate in it. :P Chocolate is good! :P
There were some pretty good prizes to be won by random draw. We were close on one of them, but they called table 13. We were at table 15. :( Dah well. But some prizes included 4 Club Seats for a Raptors Game, 4 Club Seats for a Leafs Game, a Big Ticket at Cineplex (free movies for a YEAR!), a LCD TV, a microwave, and the grand prizes were either a package of 1) a 4-day trip to Florida, a preseason Jays game, exclusive invitation to the Jays BBQ where you can meet and greet players on the Jays, and $500 spending money. 2) a trip to the Ice Hotel in Montreal and some other stuff, I don't remember hahaha...if I won, I think I would've went to Florida.
After the dinner portion, the Sarah Morrisson Band came up to play a couple songs, and ppl did get up and danced. More ppl got up and danced when the DJ took over for a time. Hahaha, it was funny when the band came back up to play more songs, several ppl just left the dance floor. HAHA..so there was less dancers on the floor when the band plays, and more when the DJ plays. :P I didn't dance. But we left at around 11.30pm.
It was good! :) My first Canadian Tire-wide event! :P
December 18-19 - Waterloo:
So I had a free day off I needed to use up before the end of the 2006 year. They call it a "floater." So I decided to use it on the 19th since some of my friends were finishing off their finals and heading back home to the west coast for the holiday. I decided that I would go up and help pack and move their possessions and, of course, say goodbye.
It was a good time, my friends I stayed with in Waterloo during this term were great. They really took care of me while I was there on the weekends, making sure I was fed and properly taken care of. I really appreciated it. :)
On the 19th, headed back to Mississauga while giving a friend a lift back. Dropped some of my stuff off, as well as some things I'm keeping for some of my friends until they come back in January, at home. Then we went Christmas shopping at Square One, me for my co-worker and her for her friends. We were able to find what we were looking for, so that was good. :) Then we headed off to eat briefly, and then off to the theatre to watch Stranger Than Fiction. I honestly thought that this movie would be a lot better, but it wasn't a huge disappointment. It was still a good movie, just not as good as I thought it would be. Movie ended pretty late since the it didn't start on time, but oh well. Dropped my friend off at her friends for the night.
December 20 - Birthday:
It was quite a busy day. Work was busy since I had to catch up with work missed on the 19th. My sister took me out for lunch at the Pickle Barrel and her husband came along as well. It was good. Italian Sausage Penne. Can't go wrong! But the service was a little slow, so I had to scarf that meal down. I was stuffed!! And I still had to leave room for my dinner tonight with the rest of my family!
My co-workers actually didn't know that it was my birthday until I told one of my co-workers where I was going for lunch. Then while I was gone, she quickly told my manager, and then they secretly passed around a card. I actually saw the card when one of my co-workers was signing it! HAHAHa..oops! :P But I just pretended I didn't see it. :P
Anyway, so my manager gave me the card and a calendar as a gift from the department.
Met up with my family at Red Lobster after work, and it was stuffing. Uggggggh! I was so full after that. Back at home, we did the whole cake thing, and opened my presents. My sister and her husband got me a joint birthday/Christmas gift, and it was a (Product) Red Special Edition iPod Nano! It was even engraved with "b.rabbit's boombox - happy 25th-". Pretty sweet eh? But I can't use it until I upgrade my computer USB ports from 1.1 to 2.0. I also got a new pair of dress pants for work from my parents, and my oldest sister got me an FM transmitter for my Nano. As for my brother's gift, I have to wait until Christmas for it.
December 21 - Maki Maki:
Andre may like this part. He told me to blog about it and tell everyone not to go to this restaurant. Here's the reason behind that. The service is brutal. It's an all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurant. On our initial order, we were missing a couple items, and we were waiting for almost an hour for our food while food that we have ordered has been passing us all night long to other tables. It was ridiculous. I'm not sure, but the manager (if she was indeed the manager of the restaurant) I think saw that we were getting pretty discontent with the service, so she came to talk to us personally and told us that she'd put in the order herself for our food. Then all our food just started to pour in. FINALLY.
Oh, I was eating with Jeff, Ben, and you guessed it, Andre. :P It was Jeff's treat to us for our collective birthdays. Thank you Jeff.
At the restaurant, we bumped into Mindy, whom I haven't seen since the summer during softball. It was nice to see her and catch up with her briefly.
All in all, the experience at Maki Maki wasn't really that enjoyable in terms of service, but again, the company was great and fun.
After dinner, we all headed over to AMC Winston Churchill to catch the 10pm show of Casino Royale. I liked it up until the end. I thought Daniel Craig was a good Bond. I actually like him as Bond over Pierce Brosnan. At first when it was announced that Craig was Bond, I was a little iffy about it, probably 'cuz I had no idea who the heck this guy was. But anyway, I really liked his attitude in this movie, he's not smooth, he's rough and edgy. I really liked the action scenes in this movie as well. Pretty good movie on the whole. :) I just can't believe that I didn't get home until 1am and I worked the next day. :S
December 22 - Christmas Potluck:
On this day, everyone was able to get off early at work. I also get off early on the 29th! W00T! :) But yeah, got off at 3pm. Which was good. Got home and just chilled for a bit before I started prepping for the potluck. I was bringing pasta. So, as I was boiling the water for the pasta and you know..cooking the pasta, my mom was hawking me the whole time, as in, keeping a very watchful eye. In the end, she ended up taking over and doing it all herself, while I"m just standing there completely frustrated that she had no trust in me in doing it. I was kinda pissed, but y'know, whatever.
Headed over to the potluck and I was the last to arrive. Haha..I wasn't even late either. :P Anyway, I didn't have much of an appetite that night so I didn't eat much. But anyway, the conversations were good again. So that was good.
We also sent a friend off to the airport, and then came back and played this game called Brain Quest. This tests the knowledge of American 5th graders. Two ppl faced off, and in the end, they tied even though one of them was ahead by almost 11 points. The final question was: How many pairs of legs does a lobster have? Go guess. :P
So I left the dinner early 'cuz I had ice hockey at 12am.....or so I thought. I went home, got ready and to pick up my brother. We went to the Iceland where it's being held, and upon arrival, we find out that there is in fact NO hockey. Why? Because it was booked at Friday night, 12am midnight. Do you see the miscommunication? Sure it was Friday night when we arrived, but it was Saturday morning when we thought we were suppose to play. We didn't book for 12am SATURDAY, but rather, 12am FRIDAY. So messed up. What a disappointment. My brother was looking so forward to playing too 'cuz it was his first time. But nope.
What a waste of a night. I could've stayed with potluck party a lot longer.
December 23 - Cemetary:
Alright, so it's today now. Woke up at around..what..8.30am? Left for the cemetary an hour later to visit my grandparents and aunt's graves. Haven't been there in a while, so we went to "see" them. After that we went to a nearby dim sum restaurant to eat lunch.
Yeah, y'know, I didn't really do much today. Just came back home and vegged. LOL. Yeah, I know, it's not funny. But who knows maybe you laughed 'cuz I LOL'ed y'know?
I was gonna go to the MCBC Cantata tonight, but decided not to. Instead, I was moving stuff into my new room, which was my sister's old room (the one that got married). So I was slowly doing that, also in the process, I was picking out old clothes that either I don't wear anymore, or don't fit anymore and donating it somewhere.
So while I was doing that, I had my tv on to CBC all night long for some good old Hockey Night in Canada. Leafs lost. Go figure. I can just see the headlines now. "Captialized". Leafs suck man. Although, Sundin did score 14 seconds apart. He had a penalty shot, and then scored again 14 seconds later.
So, that's what I've been up to lately. Lots more Christmas dinners to come. Lots more events to come to close out 2006. And wow, it has been quite a year I must say. It was sure a memorable one, and I'll be sure that I'll put up a year-in-review type recap up on this blog.
Until then, I guess that's it for tonight! This was a long one! Enjoy the holidays everyone!
