F2006 Seekers - Game 3: 5-3 L

The Showdown. CCF vs. CCF. Chasers vs. Seekers.

We lost. Now we're 1-2 for the season. Chasers are 2-0-1. The Chaser team pretty much dominated this game. I felt that they had the stronger skaters, and Jon Lo predicted right when he said that they had the edge over us. They were pretty good all around.

Anyway, I don't really remember much from the game. So I'll just mention what I remember (mostly my highlights HEHEHHE), and a few other things that I noticed while watching.

First of all. Chasers got off to a good start. After two periods, they were up 4-0, which was already enough to beat us. Their goals weren't bad ones either. I think our team, Seekers, need to work on defence, at least I know I do. I suck at defence. I'm one-dimensional almost. I don't really back-check.

So, in the first period, the only "me" highlight I remember is when I drew a penalty on Chris "Moo" Chan. Hahaha, most of us were laughing on our bench because it was almost like a game plan against him 'cuz he's their best player, to draw penalties. But I must say that he did hook me down. Legit call and I didn't dive. I don't dive. Diving for penalties is for pansies.

2nd period was a blur. All I can remember is that I tweaked my ankle a bit in a corner and in turn it lead to me cramping up a little. Sucked. Justin had to play a lot more minutes and he had a banged up knee from blocking a shot too. Justin and I were the only two centers. We had 3 pairs of wingers, 2 pairs of defencemen, and 2 centers, so the centers essentially are double-shifting.

3rd period is where all the action was for our team. I teamed up with Justin to start off the 3rd period and we quickly got a goal. I don't remember who took the shot, but Elliot made the save, but I was at the right place at the right time and put the rebound in...then Vince knocked me down. I don't know if it was by accident or on purpose, but nonetheless, whatever, I scored my first goal of the season.

I guess midway through the 3rd, I scored my second goal on a breakaway. But I had to work for that break. Kevin L cleared the puck high, and the defenceman that was going back to pick the puck up didn't know I was skating hard for it, so he was just taking his time, but it was too late, I was able to push the puck ahead in the neutral zone and beat him in a foot race. For me it felt like I had no control over my balance, but I was still able to make a move on Elliot. Deked to the right and slid it in on the left with Elliot sprawled.

My last goal to complete the hattrick was a garbage goal in the dying seconds of the game. The puck was dumped deep in the offensive zone, and I got to the puck first and tried to center it to Steve quickly, but instead it went off Elliot's skate and into the net. HAHAHAA! But I'll take it. A goal is a goal! :P

Other highlights in the 3rd period. While I was observing, there was this one play where Sara Joy was playing defense. Kinda caught me offguard to see what she was doing, but if a person with the puck got by her, she'd stick her elbow up to try and stop him/her from getting by. HAHAHA..I thought that was pretty funny 'cuz it's pretty uncharacteristic of her, and she doesn't even know she was doing it ('cuz I asked her about it after). Another highlight was Vanessa winning her first faceoff (full of firsts for her this year).

Jackal played well for us in goal despite not playing goal for about 6 months. He kept us in the game and made big stops for us.
