Amazed
I was watching a bit of the NHL on TSN tonight. It featured the St. Louis Blues at Detroit Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena. I saw a play, well, replays, of an incident that happened in the 2nd period. Ryan Johnson of the Blues was driving hard to the net and ran over Dominik Hasek (hahaha Hasek), and yeah, in classic Hasek fashion, he played dead. But anyway, the some Red Wings went after Johnson of course and only Johnson got the penalty for goalie interference. Andy Murray, Blues' coach was livid that no Red Wing players got penalized for starting a skirmish. Ok that's alright. But anyway, that's not my point.
During the 2nd intermission, James Duthie, host of NHL on TSN, was interviewing Steve Yzerman, VP of Hockey Operations (or something like that) for the Red Wings. Duthie asks Yzerman if what the Red Wings did on that play was the right thing to do, and if he thought Johnson's running the goalie was a penalty. In true classy Yzerman form, he doesn't blame Johnson for running into Hasek simply because he was driving to the net hard. Yzerman also cites that he doesn't know what it says in the rulebook about that incident, but he doesn't believe that it warranted a penalty simply because he was driving hard into the net. WOW! I couldn't stop smiling after that because Yzerman didn't blame Johnson for his play. I was amazed.
The more I listen to Yzerman, the more I see his replays, the more I gain respect for this man, a true ambassador of the game of hockey (Andre must be loving this post so far! hahaha). I wonder what kind of team Yzerman will field for the World Championships this spring, since he is the General Manager for it. And hey, if he does well, he could very well be the GM for the 2010 Team Canada team for the Vancouver Olympics!
So, I was flipping in between 10 Things I Hate About You on TBS and NHL on TSN, with WWE Smackdown! on The Score. One of the wrestlers that I've liked for a very long time is the Undertaker. There's just something about him that makes me smile. Probably his character and how he can just appear out of nowhere after the lights come back on (because the lights go pitch black when he makes a surprise entrance) or the fact that his entrance is just so, COOL! Also, he's one big guy so he's pretty intimidating to all wrestlers. He won the Royal Rumble just last Sunday over the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels (more on HBK later), so now 'Taker has the choice of fighting one of three champions WWE has: World Heavyweight Champion, Batista; WWE Champion, John Cena; or ECW World Champion, Bobby Lashley. Hahaha, I don't expect anyone to know who I'm talking about, but anyway...so far, he has confronted Cena on Raw, and Lashley on ECW. Tonight, he didn't really confront Batista 'cuz Batista called him out to make his decision on which champ he's gonna face. But that never happened because, as always in wrestling, someone interrupts. But point in case, Undertaker = cool! :D
Now, the Heartbreak Kid, otherwise known as Shawn Michaels or HBK. Now, ever since the Montreal Screwjob at Survivor Series several years back, I didn't really like him because of what happened to Bret 'The Hitman' Hart. He and Vince McMahon literally screwed him over for the title.
What was suppose to go down was Hart was suppose to win the match via disqualification, and then relinquish the title the following night on Raw before he jumped over to WCW. But McMahon didn't want that to happen, and decided to screw Hart over by causing a false win for HBK.
I recently finished reading HBK's book, Heartbreak & Truimph. It was a very good read, I couldn't stop reading it. I really enjoyed it and enjoyed reading from HBK's point of view and how he became who he is today. It was really interesting to read about the Screwjob from HBK's point of view, and to really think about it, Hart WAS being selfish for not wanting to give up the title. Apparently, it's wrestling code to give up the title before you leave the company, but Hart didn't want that and that upsetted a lot of people who are in the company.
I have a lot more respect for HBK's accomplishments now because of what he had gone through in his life, but I won't divulge here. I'd say go pick up the book and read it! Thanks Jon for the book! :)
Anyway, that's my spiel.

Steve Yzerman is the coolest! My grandparents and E was with me in the TV room of my uncles house. I heard E explaining to my grandparents in the background, telling them that Yzerman is my favourite hockey player...Haha, how cool is that? I didn't even tell her it was Stevie Y..she automatically just started telling them who he was. Anyways, I was shocked to hear what he said too about the drive to the net....but yeah, classic Yzerman, such a humble guy and a very respectful man. I love him. Like I told you before B, I'd married him if I was a woman. :) The rest of this post is a scam....I just skipped the wrestling stuff. lol
I read the wrestling stuff now....got your point ;) ....but its still wrestling...ew
