Civic Long Weekend
i don't understand what Civic Holiday is, can anyone explain to me what it is? like i'm not complaining that i get a long weekend, i just wanna know what the holiday is about 'cuz i have no idea.
anyway, the Civic weekend update is here.
Friday
i went to Scarborough store yet again to finish up the loose ends i left there, so that took a couple hours because i had to wait around and figure other things out with my uncle, who runs that store. all in all, i was able to leave by 12pm to go back to Mississauga store to finalize everything. it took me one hour to get back 'cuz the traffic was so bad. i guess everyone was on their way out of the province or city or whatever. on the way back, i also saw a charred van. the frame kinda looked like a Montana. hopefully no one was seriously hurt in that accident.
got to the Mississauga store at around 1pm and just finished off stuff there and printed up an inventory list of the finalized count for the Scarborough store so i can compare it to the old one before i started counting.
picked up lunch at A&W after i was finished with the Mississauga store and then headed over to Boca for the rest of the afternoon. spent that time just changing all the files to correspond to the store and stuff. it's taking a long time 'cuz i have to create new files and stuff. it's pretty tedious, but i hope to get it done fast 'cuz the paperwork is just piling up on me. :S
i also had to stay behind with my sister after work was done 'cuz she didn't want to be alone with the cleaners. there were two of them, so yeah. i had to stay behind and just do whatever. so i just talked to Rachel the whole time and even read over her paper on John Locke (no, not the guy from Lost).
finally left Boca at around 6pm and when i got home, my brother and i went to the bank. this time no complications with dumbass Mercedes convertible drivers. hahaha..those who are daily readers will know what incident i'm talking about (if they remember).
then at around 7.15pm, headed over to Alice/Betty's for JOY fellowship. they've opened up their house for the night for dinner and a movie. it was a very relaxing night, and it was a lot of fun. they made chicken, ribs, salad and ordered some pizzas for dinner, and we watched Dodgeball. haha such a funny movie.
before we watched Dodgeball though, we saw a home video of a children's musical that MCBC put on way back in 1993. haha aww, so many familiar faces and they were so cuuuuuute! :P even BCBC children's choir was there to perform at the end. haha that was cute too! even though some ppl are in denial about it! :P
Saturday
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYLVIA!! :D
on this day, it started at around 12.30-1pm. just ate my lunch (whatever it was) and then killed time until i had to go to the game diamond for early devotions with Saved by the Bell before our 4.30pm game against Play-Doh. so that we did.
Play-Doh were missing several of their key players, in fact, i think they had more girls than guys this game. i think that if they had more players, the game would've had a different outcome. we were able to defeat them by a lot apparently. i was unaware of that during the game 'cuz i never knew the score. nonetheless there were highlights in the game. my brother managed to hit the path during the game, it was a monster shot. he also hit another homerun later in the game, as did i. :D my first homerun of the season! yay!
after the Play-Doh game, the Formosan Cup team had a practice at 6.30-7pm (start time) and lasted until the sun went down pretty much (8.30-9pm). after the practice we headed over to Crabby Joe's at South Common Mall to discuss the tournament, game times, and rules. before that though, i went home to shower and clean my cuts from the earlier softball game 'cuz i didn't want it to stay dirty for so long. dinner was good nonetheless, had myself fish & chips, which reminded me of those Highliner Fish & Chips. haha!
called it a night at around 11pm and headed home.
Sunday
meant to wake up for church, but i didn't wake up until 9.30am and then didn't get to church until 10.30am and service was already over. it ended earlier than usual.
after service i was suppose to go shopping with Rebecca, but apparently she didn't wake up on time either. well she said she woke up at 7am, and then went back to bed 'cuz it was too early, and then didn't wake up until we called her.
met up with her at Square One at 11.30am with Ben, Jon Tang, and Wilson and then just walked around, seeing what was actually open at the mall since some stores were still closed. we did hit up HMV though, and i did end up making a purchase. i bought Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.
at 12.30pm, we all went to Moxie's for Syv's birthday lunch/brunch, and it was a good time of just chillin' out with everyone, just talking about whatever we desired :P as for my meal, i had the buttermilk pancakes. wow it was soo thick, but so good. i didn't even finish it.
afterwards, went to Sportchek with Rebecca to look for shirts and stuff for the tournie. i found a white Nike dri-fit sleeveless shirt, but i opted not to buy it 'cuz, well, even if i wore it for tournie, i wouldn't have wanted to get it dirty so there wasn't any point. had to ditch Rebecca early though 'cuz i had to go to the game diamond to set up the bases for the day and ump the 2.30pm game between Ring of Fire and Antz.
so, 2.30pm came, time to ump the game. i umped home the whole time while Alex umped first. the end of the game kinda ended in controversy, but i believe we made the right call. the play was that Marc (3B) got the grounder and tagged the runner out with both hands. this is what both Alex and i saw. but some members of Antz were saying that he had a ball in his hand and tagged with his glove. we didn't see that. but yeah, our call stood and Ring of Fire finally won their first game! congratulations! the even went on to beat Yellow Submarine in the 2nd game of their doubleheader.
i didn't stick around for the ROF/YS game though, i left at around 4.45pm to pick up my brother at home and left the house at around 5.15pm for a Shell station to fill up on some gas en route to Rebecca's place to pick her up. took a while to get to the gas station though 'cuz the traffic was backed up between the Erin Mills Parkway and Winston Churchill exits. a GO bus got pulled over by the OPP and a bunch of officers were searching for something in the grass. a drug bust? who knows. it was annoying. :P we were in a rush...kinda..but not really.
so from Rebecca's, we headed back to the game diamond to pick up Wilson, Jon Tang, and his brother. arrived there at around 6pm. the ROF/YS game just ended too and Vince and Joel were deciding what to do with drivers.
my party left for Markham right away and got there in about 45mins. not bad. i didn't realize that going to Markham is practically like going to Waterloo, just in the opposite direction. it has always seemed that Waterloo is further away. beats me.
anyway, we stopped off at T&T Supermarket on the way to Milliken Mills Park to pick up some snacks and drinks. the parking lot is hell, i never want to drive there again with the van. so many bad chinese drivers, i swear. so many dirty looks too..especially by the ppl we parked beside. sheesh, it's not like i DID anything wrong. they probably just thought that i was just some young reckless driver who doesn't know what the hell i'm doing.
so, we got to the Milliken Mills Park at around 7pm and had about an hour or so to warm up for our game at 8pm.
so the first game, i forget the name of the team we were playing against, but it was a pretty good game. Charita was also on that team as i found out later. all the games were pretty good except for our last game, which i will talk about later on. so yeah, this game was pretty much back and forth i believe and it ended up going into extra innings.
it was a little different 'cuz in MCBCSL we just end in a tie. but in this tournament, extra innings start with the last out starting at 2nd base with none out and we just play from there. same thing happens in the bottom of the inning. they managed to score that run from 2nd and we had a runner at third, but then another rule screwed us over. in MCBCSL, we're allowed to run off the bag by trying to time the contact. but in this tournament, we're not allowed to come off the bag in any circumstances unless contact is made. so if the batter swings misses and our foot comes off the bag, we're out. screwed over Phil, my brother and i. :S we learned from it though. but yeah, you can guess that we got "picked off" at third for the 2nd out of the inning. booo!
so suffice to say, we lost that game by just one run. booooo!
the second game, i don't remember much from the second game, but it was also a battle. i had to pull myself out of that game defensively 'cuz my calves started cramp up after a made a play from shallow center field. this always happens in tournaments. it's frustrating, i need to drink more water. i was still able to bat though and i just had enough leg strength to pull off a triple in one of the later innings. we lost this game as well by 2 runs.
so all in all, Sunday night, we lost 2 very close games. after the game we just discussed rides and stuff for Monday and then everyone went home with their respective parties. i dropped off Wilson, the Tangs, and Rebecca off, and then picked up some McDonald's for my brother and i for "dinner" and then crashed at 2am.
Monday
woke up at 8am to be ready to leave the house at 8.30am. Rebecca arrived at 9am and then just gunned it to Markham. haha..i didn't know whether to be scared or to enjoy it. hahaha..crazy! :P but we made it there in 30mins.
10am was our first game of the day, and we played against a team called New Life. we were able to defeat them soundly. easily our best game thus far i guess. we started the game off with me hitting a single to left, and then Jon Tenn-Yuk driving me home with a triple and then eventually Tenn-Yuk would score too somehow.
11.15am was our second game, so we had another doubleheader today. we played against Baby Gold (which was a division of one team) and the MAC crew on our team knew Steph and her bf, and some of us knew her from MCBCSL. anyway, the game also started off the same way as the first game haha, single and a triple, and then another run. haha..it was almost like deja vu. anyway, it was such a close game, but in the top of the last inning one of their players hit a 2-run jack. booo! they won by 1. gah!
with that loss, it sent us to the consolation playoffs with a 1-3 record. if we won, we would've been in the been in the "winners" bracket. anyway, we had a couple hours off as our next game was at 2pm. so we just chilled underneath a tree and just chatted, napped, or whatever you wanted to do. at one point, Phil was chasing seagulls with his bat. that was amusing.
so 2pm came and it was time to play our quarterfinal game of the consolation playoffs against the same team that we beat earlier in the day. the sun came out and it was smoking hot. it was disgusting. the game started off with me popping out, and Tenn-Yuk flying out and Rebecca grounding out, i think. bad omen to start the game. the other team came out flying, and we made a lot of errors. bad omen. then we started noticing that they were half-swinging and chopping, which is against the rules, but the ump wasn't calling anything. we grew pretty frustrated, but what could we do? we weren't making the plays either. we lost that game by mercy. they built up such a lead that we couldn't come back to win the game.
most of us were pretty upset and i sure all of us were disapppointed. we didn't show up for the game and like Tenn-Yuk said, we were playing like we already had it won. we thought we could just walk through the consolation rounds. that just kicked us in the ass.
anyway, we took some team pictures after the game, and then we all headed off to Kelsey's for lunch/dinner. it was good times. i ordered the Korean Steak Skewers which was pretty good. i also found out that Rafael Palmeiro of the Orioles tested positive for drugs in baseball. haha..i was shocked, but man, his career is forever tainted and he just recently reached the 250 homerun and 3000 hit mark. what a dumbass.
left Kelsey's at around 5-5.15pm and got home at around 6pm. the traffic wasn't that bad, it was smooth, but very little stopping. so that was good. everyone passed out. hahaa..it was quite amusing.
got home, and enjoyed Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and RAW before i headed for bed.
Tuesday
for the first time in a while, i went into Boca with my sister and stayed there for the entire day. i was fixing and creating files with Excel the whole day, but of course i was talking on MSN and doing a little bit of surfing and emailing.
so anyway, the crazy rain storm started at around noon, it was so dark and cloudy here, thundering and lightning like crazy, and POURING massively. but while i was talking Rebecca, she was saying how sunny it was in Cambridge. :S the drops of rain were gigantic.
when my sister and i got home, we were greeted by my mom saying that there was a plane crash at Pearson International Airport. i was pretty wide-eyed when i saw it on the tv and saw how close it was to the 401. i kept on wondering what would it have been like if the plane skidded all the way on to the 401. man that would be mayhem! but in the end, good news prevailed as all passengers on the plane made it out safely before the fire engulfed the entire plane. only 14 out of the 200+ passengers got injured and none of them were serious. so that's definately great news. thank God!
you know what else is crazy? the free agent movements in the NHL. so many ppl have moved already and there's bound to be more coming soon. i'm not even gonna comment on it. it's crazy.
that's it. long enough a post, i'm getting tired and i need to study for my Learning Disabilties final exam on Saturday afternoon. this bites! i hate studying!
bye!
anyway, the Civic weekend update is here.
