Sport is a Drug. Get Addicted!
man, i should get into the t-shirt making business! you could put "Sport is a Drug." on the front, and "Get Addicted!" on the back with like something from each sport. BOOYA..you get a t-shirt! yoo..i'd so buy that!! someone's gonna steal my idea! i know it...unless i do this..."Sport is a Drug. Get Addicted!" Copyright, 2004. By B. All Rights Reserved. Patented 2004. YEAH!
alright, well since i'm already on the topic of "Sport is a Drug.." thing, i might as well tell you where i got that from. well for one, i got it from my noggin'. haha..well i thought of it in my Sociology of Sport class i had tonight. the prof said that according to conflict theory in sociology, sport can be assumed as an opiate for ppl. that is, sport is more than just a game, it makes ppl happy, it's a drug. so yeah, that's the basis of the quote.
the class is getting a bit better i suppose. like she's an alright lecturer, still pretty new at it i think. all i really need to do is sit near the middle of the class in the front so i can hear her, and still be able to see the overheads. all i really do is like copy down the overhead, and then listen to what she has to say. but in this class, i think i can really benefit from having a notetaker.
yday night, i had another night class, Popular Music and Culture. it's taught by this guy named Simon Wood. he's an interesting character. so that's good. i like an interesting teacher. not a boring one. he's funny too. the class is pretty interesting too, but i was a little lost at the beginning of the lecture 'cuz he left off from last class, but i wasn't at the last class 'cuz of the World Cup of Hockey finals. but yeah, during the class he talked about the slaves and the Civil War and yeah..how blues came and stuff..it's still pretty early stuff..so i think we're making way for jazz, and all the other stuff. it'll get really interesting i think. he also played some pieces like "Old Alabama", "Crazy Blues"..just really old stuff from like the 1920s.
my prof also started to play some song excerpts on his guitar too to illustrate his point about blues and how they follow like this pattern. what was funny was that, he would play it, and improvise lyrics. then, he started to sing the theme songs from the original Batman series with Adam West and the original Spiderman cartoon. it was pretty funny and neat! 'cuz those themes songs came from a blues background.
now, another class, Sociology of Leisure. the class is a little slow, but that's alright. slow is good, i can make good notes if it's slow, even tho i have a good notetaker in Betty! ;P yeah..i really have nothing to say about that class, but it's what's after class. after every class (well most of them anyway), Betty and i head over to the SLC to eat lunch and stuff, kill time before her next class. today we had an interesting conversation, and it covered a lot of different topics, and different areas of our lives. it was all part of this assignment we have to do for this particular class. i think we have to make a timeline of our lives from birth to now, and see what events changed or made us into who we are today. i liked this conversation 'cuz i able to get to know Betty a little better! so that was cool. we were able to share different anecdotes from our childhood, and some opinions on different issues, namely relationships. haha..relationships is always a topic with ANYONE! so yeaaaaah...OH i finally finished the first chapter of readings for this class! WOOHOOO! i've been working away at it for like the past week, and i'm finally finished it! now i need start my other classes...baaaaaaaaaaaah.. anyway...next!
yes, next..A History of Popular Culture. i have nothing to say about this class. haha..
ok wow, i talked a lot about school! does that mean i'm learning something? or am i just talking about pure CRAP? meh..it's called experiences and observations. yes..that's what i'll call it.
so yeah, after class, i came home, finished that chapter, WHILE watching a little tv. it was on..for the sake of...being on..haha. i always leave the tv on. anyway, today i saw the premiere of CSI: New York. alright, this is what? the 2nd spinoff now? or is it the 3rd? i can't even remember now! i know there was the original CSI, and CSI: Miami. is there another one i'm missing? do they really need so many of these CSI shows? it might just end up hurting the series 'cuz it's getting so..what's the word..overused? diluted? my vocabulary sucks as you can see.
but yeah..there are so many of these, crime investigation shows nowadays. it's almost like it's becoming a reality show type thing. there's such an abundance of reality shows now that it's getting really overrated and stupid. ppl just get on these stupid shows just to get like 30mins of fame. it's so GAY!
alright, let's shift to a different gear. a different topic.
actually no. i think i've written enough. but i did hear another interesting idea in class today.
"It is people who define who you are."
true? have your say! comment. :)
don't forget!

2 Web Spinners:
Sounds like you have some pretty interesting classes (unlike me)! =P
Oh, and about your quote ("It is people who define who you are"), I think there's a lot of validity in it. I remember way back in my first year narrative class we talked about Frankenstein and how identity is defined. With the framing structure of the story (it's a letter of the captain of ship written to his sister, recounting what Dr. Frankenstein told him the creature told him), basically the only way the reader is able to know who/what Frankenstein's creation was is through other people. Specifically, through other people's words/stories.
Actually, that links to a work I'm studying in Native North American literature, "The Truth About Stories" by Thomas King. A line that's repeated near the beginning of every section is "The truth about stories is that's all we are." It's a little different, because the stories can come from ourselves and not necessarily from others, but it's got a similar type of idea.
ANYWAY, You're probably wondering what the heck I'm rambling on about, so I'll stop here. =P
Oh, except, if you madea "Sports is a Drug" shirt I'd wear one! ^_~
first and most importantly: sports do rule..
but i do not believe ppl define us... ppl only define us if we let them define us... and we only let them define us when we dont care enough bout who we are.. i believe that the past defines us..
