Everyday Annoyances

As everyone probably knows, I work in Toronto - Yonge and Eglinton. Everyday, I wake up at 6am, just so I can get out of the door by 7.10am at the latest. There are reasons for this, and reasons for why it takes me an hour and 10mins to get out of the house.

Everyday, I wake up at 6am, and when I get up, I don't get up immediately. I lie there in my bed for a bit sometimes, sometimes I even fall back asleep for 5-10mins. This is followed by me trudging my way to my computer to check a few things - old MSN msgs that were left overnight, email, fantasy pool ranks, and sadly, Facebook. So that takes about 10-15mins. So I've wasted about 15-25mins already. Then I make my way to the bathroom to wash up and shower. That's about 20mins in total. And another 5-10mins to decide what to wear and get dressed. Go downstairs, drink my morning drink, and shoot out the door.

This is where the everyday annoyances begin!

These are some annoyances from the road:

  • Drivers who don't let you in

Seriously. Can people be considerate of other drivers? I actually think that by not letting others from the on ramp onto the highway is hazardous to both drivers. The driver on the ramp can hit a median or something, or even smash into the car that didn't let them in the first place. This almost happened to me a couple times over the past year and a half while I'm leaving Kipling Ave and getting on to the QEW. The on-ramp is very short. There was this one time, where I was just about to enter into the right lane when all of a sudden this stupid lady in a dark Nissan Altima speeds up and doesn't let me in! It as unbelievable! The road rager in me would've flashed on my high beams and tailgated her like a mofo, but I didn't. I just passed her in the middle lane and just looked at her. Stupid woman. Cutting me off didn't do NOTHING for her, I ended up passing her ANYWAY! Take THAT!

  • Drivers who don't thank you for letting them in

This annoys me because I always thank the drivers that let me in. I let in a lot of drivers and they just drive on as if nothing happened. I mean, I deliberately slowed down just so they could get in, WELL before the end of the on-ramp. And even if they're stuck at the end of the on ramp, I let them in. No thanks for me! I usually say, "You're welcome!" in a disgusted tone. No appreciation whatsoever! JERKS.

These are some annoyances while at work:

  • People who don't hold doors open for the next person

I think this is my top pet peeve in the world. It pisses me off even more when they know you're behind them and they open the door just enough for them to squeeze through. I mean..how rude can you be? I always look behind me before I open the door to see if I need to hold it open for the person behind me. It pisses me off the most when your hands are full, and they know you're behind them and then still open the door for themselves. SELFISH!

  • People who ask me for help when I'm on lunch and clearly eating

I don't like it when ppl ask me to do stuff while I'm on my break, especially if I'm on lunch. When I'm on lunch, that's when everyone takes their break. It should be as if I'm not even in the office. When my co-workers are on lunch, I leave them alone until they're finished their lunch. All in all - let me enjoy my lunch in peace. Don't ask me to do something for you. Wait until I'm finished.

These are some annoyances while riding on the TTC:

  • People who bump me on the TTC with their big ass bags

Do they not respect the people around them? I mean, the subway is big obviously, but when you have room, keep your freaking bag to yourself! Keep it infront of you or something! It annoys me that they have room yet, they still find someway to let that stupid bag hit me in the back or something. I'm talking about those ladies with HUGE bags (why do you need such a big bag for?!), those Lululemon duffel bags, men's laptop bags, messenger bags. I wear a messenger bag, but I keep it close to me, if anything it's infront of me whenever I'm riding, but obviously behind me when I'm walking. But..UGH!

  • People who sit on my knee hard on the TTC

This happens almost everytime I have a seat on the TTC, the ones that face the directions the train goes, not the ones on the side (I don't know if I make any sense, but whatever). Anyway, so I'm sitting down minding my own business, and when someone sits down infront of me, they sit down with force for some reason and they catch a bit of my knee. I don't know who it hurts more, the person or me. Half the time they don't even apologize! ANNOYING!

So, back to the beginning to why I wake up so early. I leave early at 7.10am just to make it to Kipling TTC/GO Station so I can get a parking spot. If I arrive there later than 7.50am, the lot os full. You're lucky if you get a spot at that time. I've noticed a trend that the time of fullness is getting earlier and earlier as commuters are getting keener. It usually takes me about 20-30mins to get to Kipling Station. So yeah, it really depends on traffic. I've missed out on a spot a handful of times already, but lucky dad's office is nearby.

For those who are anticipating the new Dark Knight movie (sequel to Batman Begins for those who don't know), here's a preview of the Joker!

Ah...see this is where we need to change our thinking. Instead of asking/wondering and getting frustrated with people's way of life or values, you have to think that this is what we are called to do as Christians; to be understanding and acknowledge that others don't carry the same servant values. I know it's easy for me to say and hard to do but if you remind yourself all the time, it sinks in eventually. :)

hey, did you know the Islington lot usually has space, when Kipling's full? And it's only a few minutes away.

You're lucky that your dad's so close!!!

People who don't thank you for things: Are you letting them in expecting a thank-you? Or are you willing and gracious regardless the outcome?

People who don't hold doors open ... & People who ask for help ... on lunch ...:
Now that's just mean for both cases. At least for the second one, you should let them know that you don't appreciate it. It's better to let your grievance known than to hold it inside resentful. Especially if it happens again.
